Publication number: 20210243501Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing protected content to subscribers of a managed (e.g., MSO) network via a content source accessible via an internetwork such as the Internet. In one embodiment, a user accesses a service provider portal (e.g., website), and requests content. The service provider determines whether the requesting user is permitted to access the content, and what rights or restrictions are associated with the user. This includes authenticating the user as a subscriber of the MSO, and determining the subscriber's subscription level. In another embodiment, a user's account with the MSO and service provider may be federated, thus a given user will have MSO-specific information regarding its identity (such as login information, GUID, etc.) and is able to perform a single sign on to request and receive content.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 8, 2021Publication date: August 5, 2021Inventors: Gary Cronk, Jonathan Putsch, James Boutilier, Paul L. Miller, Michael Dillon

Publication number: 20210097232Abstract: A computing system receives a request to generate one or more narrative frameworks for a worksheet. The worksheet is hosted by a third party server. The computing system interfaces with the third party server to retrieve data associated with the worksheet. The computing system infers attributes of the worksheet from the retrieved data. The attributes correspond to a type of data represented in the worksheet. The computing system generates a narrative template for the one or more narrative frameworks. The computing system generates one or more data variables for the one or more narrative frameworks based on the generated narrative template. The computing system constructs the one or more narrative frameworks by selectively retrieving data from the worksheet for each data variable of the one or more data variables in the narrative framework.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2020Publication date: April 1, 2021Inventors: Adam Long, Nick Haynes, Dan Salo, Heather Dahm, Jacob McCright, Michael Dillon, Hannah Deters, Anup Khadka

Patent number: 10938494Abstract: Over-the-air radio broadcast signals are commonly used to deliver a variety of programming content (e.g., audio, etc.) to radio receiver systems. Supplemental data (e.g., metadata) may be provided to radio broadcast receiver systems, where such supplemental data is associated with the programming content delivered via the over-the-air radio broadcast signals. In exemplary embodiments described herein, a radio receiver system receives both (i) primary programming content via over-the-air radio broadcast transmission, and (ii) metadata related to the programming content via wireless Internet. This use of metadata provides a user with an enhanced experience regardless of the type of terrestrial broadcast signal that is received at the user's radio receiver system. Users receiving radio broadcast signals at a receiver system may view images, videos, multimedia displays, text, etc., that is related to the programming content received via the over-the-air radio broadcast signals.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 2017Date of Patent: March 2, 2021Assignee: Ibiquily Digital CorporationInventors: Robert Michael Dillon, Paul Venezia

Publication number: 20200280751Abstract: Methods and apparatus for providing protected content to subscribers of a managed (e.g., MSO) network via a content source accessible via an internetwork such as the Internet. In one embodiment, a user accesses a programmer website, and requests content. The programmer determines whether the requesting user is permitted to access the content, and what rights or restrictions are associated with the user. This includes authenticating the user as a subscriber of the MSO, and determining the subscriber's subscription level. In another embodiment, a user's account with the MSO and programmer may be federated, thus a given user will have MSO-specific information regarding its identity (such as login information, GUID, etc.) and/or information regarding subscription level and service details, stored at the programmer. Messages received from the MSO representing permission for the user to access content may also be stored at the programmer site for later reference.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 9, 2020Publication date: September 3, 2020Inventors: Gary Cronk, Janathan Putsch, James Boutillier, Paul L. Patent number: 10419516Abstract: A system and method for managing the delivery of targeted content. When a user desires to opt-out of receiving targeted content, the user registers with a do-not-target (DNT) registry and is issued a DNT cookie. The DNT cookie is a domain cookie that is stored on a user network access device. A provider of targeted content may look for the DNT cookie stored on the user's network access device. When the DNT cookie is not found, then the provider may deliver targeted content to the user. When the DNT cookie is found, then the provider may not deliver targeted content to the user. A Web site may offer the user an “override” cookie that allows that Web site to provide targeted content, or selected targeted content, even when the user has a DNT cookie. Alternatively, a DNT header can be added to a Web page request that indicates that the user does not want to receive targeted content. The DNT header may be overridden by an override cookie.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2016Date of Patent: September 17, 2019Assignee: TIME WARNER CABLE ENTERPRISES LLCInventors: Howard Pfeffer, Peter Stern, Michael Dillon

Patent number: 10070165Abstract: A system and method for determining entitlement to content residing on a server. A subscriber account with a multi-channel video program distributor (MVPD) includes subscription information indicative of the services provided by the MVPD to the subscriber. A computing device operated by the subscriber sends a request for access to content controlled by the MVPD. The request is received by the MVPD and forwarded to an entitlements server. The entitlement server sends an access granted message to the MVPD when the subscriber is entitled to receive the requested content. The IP address of the subscriber computing device is used to determine whether the computing device is connected to the network via a network access device authorized by the MVPD. The “on-net” or “off-net” status of the computing device may be used to determine whether the subscriber receives the requested content and/or a quality of service level applied to the content.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 2015Date of Patent: September 4, 2018Assignee: Time Warner Cable Enterprises LLCInventors: Michael Dillon, Peter Stern, Jon Putsch, Matthew Meyers
