  • Patent number: 11958133
Abstract: In one or more embodiments, a method includes selecting a cemented carbide substrate from a plurality of cemented carbide substrates in a substrate inventory. Each of the plurality of cemented carbide substrates have a substantially planar top surface. The method also includes emitting a plurality of laser pulses from a laser towards at least the substantially planar top surface of the cemented carbide substrate to ablate selected regions of the cemented carbide substrate thereby forming the cemented carbide substrate into a selected shape.

  • Publication number: 20240100174
Abstract: Conjugation of polymers to proteins, including biomedically-relevant PEGylation, is a promising approach to address a central challenge of biologics and biotech: the lack of protein stability in demanding non-native environments. Application of conjugation is hindered by the lack of atomic level understanding of protein-polymerinteractions, preventing design of conjugates with predicted properties. An integrative structural and biophysical approach was used to address this challenge using a polymer-modified carbohydrate recognition domain of human galectin-3 (Gal3C), a lectin essential for cellular adhesion and potential biologic. Modification with PEG and other polymers dramatically increased Gal3C thermal stability and redirected its unfolding pathway through forming a stable intermediate. Distinct polymer properties which increased protein thermal stability were revealed. Structural details of Gal3C-polymer conjugates revealed by NMR pointed to the important role of polymer localization.

  • Publication number: 20150070169
Abstract: The Personal possession alarm comprises of a fob and a receiver. The fob is a portable wireless device while the receiver is fixed to the personal possession. Both the fob and the receiver are made up of rigid plastic with the electrical components enclosed. At present the system provides three function options: 1: Proximity Detection—when a preset distance between the fob and the receiver is exceeded, the system will trigger an alarm on both the fob and receiver. 2: Movement Detection—when the personal possession is disturbed, the system will trigger an alarm on both the fob and receiver. 3: Both functions can operate simultaneously. As the alarm alerts the user of the possible theft or disturbance of the possession, it also forces the thief to abandon the possession. This device could be effectively adhered to a wide variety of personal possessions.
