  • Publication number: 20080147146
Abstract: A system for stimulating a nerve or nerves in a patient includes an electrode patch having an array of equally spaced concentric electrodes each having a central cathode and a concentrically surrounding anode. The electrode array patch is used to determine the location of the nerve or nerves to be stimulated by electrical pulses. Once the location of the nerve is determined, a concentric electrode patch having a central cathode and a concentrically surrounding anode is positioned at the optimal location on the patient's skin to effect neurostimulation. The concentric electrode patch may be removably affixed to the patient's skin by adhesive or magnets.

  • Publication number: 20080024373
Abstract: An antenna and its associated components are consolidated in a small measurement box, and multiple tests are competed simultaneously, with a single vector network analyzer. This can be done by treating the “Far Field” measurements (typically measured on antenna/RCS ranges) as another port of a larger passive network. After characterization of one ideal “gold” unit (or a sample set of “gold” units), the S-parameters of subsequent units are measured in the same passive test box environment. The results of these subsequent tests are compared to the results of the “gold unit's” test, and if they are repeated to within some tolerance, electrical similarity can be proven.

  • Publication number: 20070096723
Abstract: Systems and methods for determining linear position are disclosed. An example system includes a magnet with first and second magnetic poles. The first and second magnetic poles define an axis of the magnet. The system also includes a magnetoresistive sensor comprising a magnetoresistive sensor structure. The magnetoresistive sensor structure defines a plane that, in the system, is oriented out-of-plane with the axis of the magnet. In operation, the magnet travels, with respect to the magnetoresistive sensor, along a substantially linear path of travel that is substantially parallel to the plane defined by the sensor structure, such that the sensor operates in a saturation mode when the magnet is located along a given portion of the path of travel. When operating in the saturation mode, the magnetoresistive sensor produces an electrical signal that corresponds with a linear position of the magnet along the given portion of the path of travel.

  • Publication number: 20060137473
Abstract: An improved torque sensing arrangement includes a magnetoelastic ring on a rotatable shaft, along with two or more magnetic field sensors. The ring has at least two magnetic bands magnetized in opposite directions to produce at least two magnetic fields. Alternatively, the rotatable shaft could be magnetized into bands, eliminating the need for a magnetoelastic ring. The magnetic field sensors are positioned next to, but not contacting, the bands, and can be used to measure the field strength, which can be converted to torque. The sensors are preferably positioned to either side of the peak axial magnetic field strength areas of the bands, one offset from the center of one band in a first direction and the other offset from the center of the other band in a second direction opposite the first direction, thereby limiting the average change in the reading when the fields move under the shaft.

  • Publication number: 20050130845
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and related compositions for altering the physical and chemical properties of a substrate used in hydrocarbon exploitation, such as in downhole drilling operations. In a preferred embodiment a method involves formulating a fluid, tailored to the specific drilling conditions, that contains one or more inactivated enzymes. Preferably the enzyme is inactivated by encapsulation in a pH responsive material. After the fluid has been introduced into the well bore, one or more triggering signals, such as a change in pH, is applied to the fluid that will activate or reactivate the inactivated enzyme, preferably by causing it to be released by the encapsulation material. The reactivated enzyme is capable of selectively acting upon a substrate located downhole to bring about the desired change in the chemical or physical properties of the substrate.
