    Abstract: A waste heat source (100) is used to heat a high temperature heat transfer fluid which is used to heat an absorption heat transfer machine (10) having a generator (20), an absorber (30), a condenser (40), and an evaporator (50) operatively connected together. The high temperature heat transfer fluid can also be used to heat a load (190) such as a room space or a process. The waste heat source (100) can also be used to heat an intermediate heat transfer fluid, which can be used to heat a second load (175) such as a space, a process, or an absorption heat transfer machine. Novel flow control devices (70, 60) for controlling the flow of weak solution from generator (20) to absorber (30) or of refrigerant from condenser (40) to evaporator (50), respectively, are also described.

    Abstract: A mass and heat transfer device uses a substantially vertical surface to separating a first fluid space from a second fluid space with the first fluid space containing a downward flowing liquid in at least a partially flooded state and an upward flowing gas contained at least partially within the downward flowing liquid. A fluid distribution surface with one or more apertures is provided within the first fluid space with the apertures controlling the downward passage and distribution of the downward flowing liquid and the upward passage and distribution of the upward flowing gas. A heat transfer fluid is used in the second fluid space for heat transfer with fluids in the first fluid space. The fluid distribution surface can be used in a horizontal, vertical or angled position and in annular, cylindrical, and hexahedral forms.

    Abstract: A fluid heat exchange apparatus is disclosed that can be used as an absorber in an absorption cooling system. The compact absorber design uses an accordion fin assembly to direct solution downward through the absorber on a plurality of alternatively angled fins. The alternatively angled fins cause the solution to collect at each level against a thermally conductive surface. Each fin includes a plurality of house-shaped perforations that allow the solution to spill over onto the next level fin. The house-shaped perforations also allow the vapor to flow upward in effective counterflow with the solution.

    Abstract: A nozzle assembly for discharging jets of cleaning fluid from the end of a sootblower lance tube. The nozzle assembly includes a conduit within the lance tube. The conduit includes an inlet end, a discharge end and has a bore extending generally centrally therethrough. The conduit exhibits a length which is greater than the diameter of the lance tube and produces a discharged jet of improved coherency.
