  • Patent number: 11959436
Abstract: A piston for an internal combustion engine which includes a crown having spiral features designed to increase swirl of combustion gases in a cylinder of the engine is provided. The spiral features can be located in a combustion surface or in a combustion bowl of the crown. The increased swirl of the combustion gases is expected to improve mixing of the air and fuel injected into the cylinder, and thus cause the fuel to burn more completely, achieve better efficiency out of the injected fuel, and reduce unburned hydrocarbons in the exhaust gas.

  • Patent number: 11951284
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for transitioning to sleep mode or otherwise modified glucose target range in automated insulin delivery systems. For example, sleep mode can include a lower glucose target and/or lower and narrower glucose target range because of fewer variables that affect glucose values during sleep such as eating and exercise. Due to increased stability provided by the sleep mode target range, it is desirable to transition to the sleep mode target range as quickly as possible, while ensuring the transition is done safely and does not risk low glucose or hypoglycemia by too quickly switching to the lower and narrower target range. Systems and methods disclosed herein therefore provide various approaches for safely and quickly transitioning to sleep mode or other modified target ranges in order to improve time in range by being more aggressive to get to the lower sleep mode or other target faster without risking hypoglycemia.

  • Publication number: 20240100174
Abstract: Conjugation of polymers to proteins, including biomedically-relevant PEGylation, is a promising approach to address a central challenge of biologics and biotech: the lack of protein stability in demanding non-native environments. Application of conjugation is hindered by the lack of atomic level understanding of protein-polymerinteractions, preventing design of conjugates with predicted properties. An integrative structural and biophysical approach was used to address this challenge using a polymer-modified carbohydrate recognition domain of human galectin-3 (Gal3C), a lectin essential for cellular adhesion and potential biologic. Modification with PEG and other polymers dramatically increased Gal3C thermal stability and redirected its unfolding pathway through forming a stable intermediate. Distinct polymer properties which increased protein thermal stability were revealed. Structural details of Gal3C-polymer conjugates revealed by NMR pointed to the important role of polymer localization.

  • Publication number: 20240013640
Abstract: The present embodiments relate to identifying property intrusion events based upon sensor data received from smart devices populated about a home. A smart home controller may compare the sensor data to baseline sensor data to dynamically identify an intrusion event that may be occurring. The controller may generate a notification and determine an action to perform to facilitate damage or risk mitigation. Accordingly, an individual associated with the home may be notified of the event, and then select to perform the action, such as via their mobile device. In some implementations, the controller may automatically perform the action. As a result, in response to computer identification of an intrusion event, corrective action may be taken or prompted, or otherwise any damage caused by the intrusion event may be mitigated, reducing insurance claims or claim amounts associated with intrusion events. Insurance discounts may be provided based upon the risk mitigation functionality.
