Abstract: A method for determining mineralogy of a formation includes determining a model of arenites in the formation by performing a first type of linear regression on a plurality of elemental dry weights of the formation based upon a sum of elemental dry weights of calcium and magnesium being at least a given value, or performing a second type of linear regression on the elemental dry weights based upon the sum of the elemental dry weights of elemental calcium and magnesium being less than the given value. A model of arkoses in the formation is determined by performing a third type of linear regression on the elemental dry weights. A partitioning function is then determined. The mineralogy of the formation is then determined by applying the partitioning function to the model of arenites and the model of arkoses, and adding the model of arenites and the model of arkoses together.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method for analyzing earth samples of a geological formation, comprising: performing a Fourier Transform InfraRed (FTIR) spectrometry measurement on an earth sample collected in the formation by: Irradiating the sample with infrared energy Measuring a spectrum representative of the infrared energy absorbed by the earth sample, analyzing the measured spectrum and obtaining from the analyzed measured spectrum a reconstructed spectrum corresponding to a combination of a plurality of standard spectra representative of elements contained in the earth sample, based on the measured spectrum and on the reconstructed spectrum, detecting a tar layer in the geological formation.

Abstract: Methods and systems for purifying argon from a crude argon stream are disclosed, employing pressure swing adsorption at cold temperatures from ?186° C. to ?20° C.; more preferably from ?150° C. to ?50° C.; and most preferably from ?130° C. to ?80° C. with oxygen-selective zeolite adsorbent. In some embodiments, the oxygen-selective zeolite adsorbent is a 4A zeolite, a chabazite, or a combination thereof.

Abstract: An air stream is compressed in multiple stages using refrigeration derived from a refrigerant comprising natural gas for inter-stage cooling. The possibility of natural gas leaking into the air stream is reduced by use of an intermediate cooling medium (“ICM”) to transfer the refrigeration from the refrigerant to the inter-stage air stream. The compressed air stream can be fed to a cryogenic air separation unit that includes an LNG-based liquefier unit from which a cold natural gas stream is withdrawn for use as said refrigerant.
