  • Publication number: 20230168431
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed toward photonic elements comprising rib-waveguide-based ring resonators having high coupling efficiency between their bus and ring waveguides within the coupling region of the ring resonator, as well as operability over a wide spectral range. Embodiments disclosed herein employ a small-diameter ring waveguide and a bus waveguide that collectively define an asymmetrical coupler having a coupling region at which the optical confinement of the bus waveguide is stronger on side of the bus waveguide distal to the ring waveguide than on the side of the bus waveguide that is proximal to the ring waveguide. In some embodiments, in the coupling region, the bus waveguide has ridge and an inner bus-slab portion that is shared with the ring waveguide, while the outer bus-slab portion is at least partially removed to give rise to stronger optical confinement at the outer edge of the ridge of the bus waveguide.

  • Publication number: 20230170169
Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate generally to a current interrupt device (CID) including a frangible bulb that is configured to be thermally triggered. In some embodiments, the CID includes a breaking contact electrically coupled to a fixed contact and held in electrical contact by the frangible bulb. In some embodiments, the frangible bulb is configured to break at a temperature threshold. In some embodiments, the breaking contact is configured to bend, rotate and/or otherwise deform about a hinge point in order to become electrically disconnected from the fixed contact when the frangible bulb breaks. In some embodiments, opening the electrical circuit between the breaking contact and the fixed contact may prevent overcharging, overvoltage conditions, overcurrent conditions, thermal runaway, and/or other catastrophic failure events.

  • Publication number: 20230158761
Abstract: The method of this invention provides a simple and inexpensive method for manufacturing self-sealing pneumatic rubber tires of the tubeless type having a higher degree of uniformity than can be made utilizing conventional manufacturing procedures that are currently being practiced. In the practice of this invention a low viscosity sealant formulation, which would ordinarily be difficult to handle and build into an uncured tire, is encapsulated in a stiff rubber formulation. This makes it relatively easy to build the sealant layer into the tire since the low viscosity sealant formulation is contained with the more rigid solid material. The low viscosity sealant material requires little and preferably no depolymerization to act effectively as a sealant. Accordingly, it does not need to be depolymerized with a peroxide which causes off-gassing and the resultant tire uniformity and balance issues normally associated with polymer break down.

  • Publication number: 20230133464
Abstract: Embodiments described herein include electrochemical cell modules. In some aspects, an electrochemical cell module includes a first electrochemical cell and a second electrochemical cell. The first electrochemical cell includes an anode material disposed on an anode current collector, a cathode material disposed on a cathode current collector, a separator disposed between the anode material and the cathode material, and a pouch material disposed on the anode current collector and the cathode current collector. The separator extends beyond the anode material and the cathode material and the pouch material extends beyond the separator. The portion of the separator that extends beyond the outer edge of the anode material and the cathode material and the portion of the pouch material that extends beyond the outer edge of the separator are folded at an angle of about 80 degrees to about 110 degrees with respect to the anode material and the cathode material.

  • Publication number: 20230122472
Abstract: Hybrid on-policy/off-policy techniques are provided for improving the estimation of quality (reward) of a control policy for decision making by combining the on-policy and off-policy data from multiple estimators into a single metric. In one aspect, a method for estimating a reward of a policy for decision making in a computer system includes: computing multiple reward estimates of the policy using estimators, wherein at least a subset of the estimators compute reward estimates with prediction intervals; and combining the multiple reward estimates using a combiner to produce a new reward estimate. Thus, some of the estimators might compute the reward estimates without prediction intervals. A method for estimating a reward of a policy when another one or more of the estimators compute reward estimates without prediction intervals is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20230090853
Abstract: Embodiments described herein relate to current interrupt devices (CIDs) for electrochemical cells that use a thermal trigger (e.g., shape memory and/or bi-metallic materials) to open an electrical circuit just prior to a thermal runaway or during short-circuit event to prevent catastrophic failure of the electrochemical cell. Embodiments include CIDs comprising a housing, a bus bar coupled to the housing, and a thermal trigger operably coupled to the bus bar. In some embodiments, the bus bar can include an engineered fracture site. In some embodiments, the thermal trigger is dimensioned and configured to deform at a predetermined temperature to break the bus bar at the engineered fracture site. In some embodiments, a portion of the bus bar travels about a hinge, opening the electrical circuit and preventing overcharging, thermal runaway, and/or other catastrophic failure events.

  • Patent number: 11560462
Abstract: It has been found that carboxylic acid functionalized high cis-1,4-polybutadiene rubber which is comprised of polybutadiene rubber chains having a cis-1,4-microstructure content of at least 90 percent has much better interaction with metal salts of ?,?-ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids, such as zinc diacrylate or zinc dimethacrylate. This results in such rubber compositions being stiff while still exhibiting a lower level of hysteresis. These characteristics are beneficial when used in manufacturing tire apex compositions, in manufacturing golf ball cores, and in a wide variety of other applications. Such rubber compositions can be used as substitutes for thermoplastic elastomers in many applications.
