  • Publication number: 20140274491
Abstract: A sporting-good implement, such as a ball bat or a lacrosse stick, includes a first handle section rotatably connected to a second handle section. The second handle section may be attached to or integral with a tapered region or barrel region of a ball bat, or with a shaft section or head of a lacrosse stick, or with another sporting-good feature. This rotatable engagement allows the relative position of the user's hands to change during the course of a swing, shot, or pass, ideally placing the user's hands in a position to generate improved power or control.

  • Publication number: 20140148279
Abstract: A hockey-stick blade includes a heel region, a toe region spaced longitudinally from the heel region, and a mid-region located between the heel region and the toe region. The toe region includes one or more reinforcing elements, optionally of different lengths, located at different vertical positions within the toe region. The blade further includes a hosel that optionally is tailored to substantially match the strength and stiffness characteristics of an attached or integral hockey-stick shaft. The mid-region of the blade exhibits improved feel and flexibility characteristics due to the increased stiffness in the toe region.

  • Patent number: 8686880
Abstract: A method of communicating electronic map data is disclosed, wherein map data is compiled as at least one cell comprising a plurality of vector data records and a plurality of feature data records to, for instance, the IHO S-57 standard. During the compilation, the respective bit lengths of a plurality of vector data values are reduced and both the bit-reduced vector data values and feature data values are entropy encoded. The compiled cell data, which may be an Electronic Navigational Chart, is then compressed, encrypted and digitally signed according to, for instance, the IHO S-63 standard. The encrypted and digitally signed cell data is eventually transmitted to a remote navigational system, which may be an Electronic Chart Display and Information System, over a network, for instance in a satellite telecommunication. A system embodying the method is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8502850
Abstract: A method, an apparatus and/or a system of laser marking of an interior cavity of a securing means of a substance container is disclosed. In one embodiment, a solid-state laser marking system to mark a securing means of a substance container includes a semiconductor laser to emit a pumping laser beam. The solid-state laser marking system also includes a resonator to create the laser beam that is then focused through a lens to mark the securing means of the substance container having a maximum diameter of 5 cm. Further, the solid-state laser marking system includes a solid-state laser crystal doped with a rare-earth element, to produce a laser beam in response to being pumped by the pumping laser beam and a laser resonator. The laser resonator is configured to focus the laser beam of a spot size of less than 150 microns and a beam quality of M2 less than 1.3.

  • Patent number: 8479257
Abstract: An as-built network is evaluated by analyzing a model of the network by the steps of determining zones within the network, computing the access between zones, summarizing the access between zones to produce a dataset, then inputting a policy set comprising a collection of approvals, typically in the form of simple white-lists of approvals, then comparing the dataset and particularly the access between zones with the policy set of approvals (white-lists) to determine which access fall outside the approvals, and producing therefrom as an output to an end user a report of compliance and noncompliance, and then repeating the steps of determining, computing, and summarizing, and then the comparing step, after a period or after the network has changed. Thus a network operator or auditor can readily and interactively assess whether the infrastructure is in compliance with regulatory or other design requirements.

  • Patent number: 8416069
Abstract: An embodiment of a communication system can control transmission of a data signal to a power distribution network based on signal data measured from the power distribution network. The signal data may represent an amount of crosstalk or an amount of noise experienced on the power distribution network. The signal data and an identification of at least one active power line coupler unit can be used to determine an adjustment to one or more power line coupler units. A control signal that represents the adjustment can be used to adjust the power line coupler units.

  • Patent number: 8051481
Abstract: The present invention is directed to methods of and systems for adaptive networking that monitors a network resource of a network. The method monitors an application performance. The method categorizes a first subset of traffic of the network. The categories for the first subset include trusted, known to be bad, and suspect. The method determines an action for a second subset of traffic based on the category for the first subset of traffic. Some embodiments provide a system for adaptive networking that includes a first device and traffic that has a first subset and a second subset. The system also includes a first resource and a second resource for the transmission of the traffic. The first device receives the traffic and categorizes the traffic into the first and second subsets. The first device assigns the first subset to the first resource.
