  • Publication number: 20150244214
Abstract: According to an embodiment of the present invention, a component for an electric machine, for example, an interlocking stator, rotor, armature or exciter, for use in an electric machine prepared by a process is provided. The process by which the component is prepared includes the steps of applying a first material to a first portion of a first surface to form a first stator lamination and applying the first material to a second portion of a first surface, spaced from the first portion, to form a first rotor lamination. The process by which the component is prepared further includes the steps of orienting the grains of the first material, applying a second material to the first portion of the first material, applying a second material to the second portion of the first material, and bonding the second material to the first material.

  • Patent number: 6201325
Abstract: A centrifugal actuator for operating a motor start winding switch includes a base fixed to the shaft as a bearing shoulder and a hub slidably mounted to the base by a groove mating projection and grooves. The hub has a flange which actuates the switch. The hub and base include stops which limit the hub travel. Diametrically opposite hinge units on the base receive offset pivot arms including a pivot rod held in the unit by weight connected coil springs. The weights are L-shaped having heavy plate and offset levers having a hinge or pivot plate therebetween. The pivot plate is offset from the plane of the levers and includes an opening forming the pivot rod having a coined pivot edge. The base hinge units have hook members within which the rod pivots. The outer tab of the hook enters the pivot plate opening in the run position to lock the weight in place. The base is secured to the shaft with an end surface to function as a shoulder for a bearing.

  • Patent number: 5203221
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for use with a shaft mountable gear reduction drive in which a driven shaft is coupled with reduction gears by a hollow intermediate output shaft. The output shaft is journaled within the gearbox and has a tapered axial passage for receiving one end of the generally cylindrical driven shaft. A tapered bushing is wedged into the axial passage to interlock the output shaft and the driven shaft for synchronous rotation. A retaining nut is threaded to the outboard end of the output shaft and is rotated relative thereto to advance the nut axially along the driven shaft and forcefully lock the tapered bushing in place. In order to facilitate the driving engagement of the bushing with the output shaft and driven shaft, a nut locking apparatus is provided for preventing rotation of the retaining nut when the output shaft is rotated by the gear drive, and thereby drawing the tapered bushing along the driven shaft.
