  • Patent number: 8782738
Abstract: A communications system for an aircraft carrying at least one person having a personal electronic device (PED) includes an aircraft server in the aircraft for determining airborne validation of a ground server address entered via a corresponding PED, and a transceiver in the aircraft cooperating with the aircraft server for communicating using the airborne validated ground server address. A ground server on the ground is for determining ground validation of the airborne validated ground server address, and provides ground access for the corresponding PED for which the entered ground server address has both airborne and ground validation.

  • Patent number: 8752341
Abstract: A conventional grounded steel tower, or other structure, supports multiple wires (e.g., 6) carrying multi-phase high voltage electricity (e.g., >100 kV). Each wire is supported by a ceramic insulator connected to a horizontal arm of the structure, where an angled strut helps support the arm. There are usually three tiers of wires. The closest distance between a wire and ground is typically between the wire and an angled strut below the wire, where the angled strut helps support a lower-tier wire. A guard formed of a dielectric is affixed to and covers the lower portion of the steel strut as well as any steel that outward extends beyond the strut. The guard prevents flashover between a wire and the underlying grounded strut if a large bird perches on the guard, since the bird will not be grounded by the strut.

  • Patent number: 8720545
Abstract: A method for drilling a wellbore includes drilling the wellbore by injecting drilling fluid into a top of a tubular string disposed in the wellbore at a first flow rate and rotating a drill bit. The tubular string includes: the drill bit disposed on a bottom thereof, tubular joints connected together, a longitudinal bore therethrough, a port through a wall thereof, and a sleeve operable between an open position where the port is exposed to the bore and a closed position where a wall of the sleeve is disposed between the port and the bore. The method further includes moving the sleeve to the open position; and injecting drilling fluid into the port at a second flow rate while adding a tubular joint(s) to the tubular string. The injection of drilling fluid into the tubular string is continuously maintained between drilling and adding the joint(s).

  • Publication number: 20140117622
Abstract: A Curved Instrument for the Sport of Object Manipulation is described as being a solid mold made of soft plastic which is used by but not limited to whirling, twirling, spinning, tossing, grasping, catching, bumping and flipping in the air to oneself, another person and among an unlimited number of persons with virtually any portion of the body. The present invention is composed of at least two portions attached to one another by a third portion where each portion contains at least one curve. A third portion also contains at least on curve with an addition of an indention located in the center of the portion for grip and reference point. The present invention has curves and indentions which makes the instrument safer and easier to use in the sport of object manipulation as the curved instrument is safer and easier to whirl, twirl, spin, toss, grasp, catch, bump and flip with virtually any portion of the body.

  • Publication number: 20140034380
Abstract: A plastic shield for a cable and insulator is described having a center section for covering the insulator. The center section has an opening at both its ends for the cable. Proximate each opening is a pivotable and bendable flange, where the flange pivots at one end of the flange and freely bends. An arm extends from each of the cable openings of the center section, and each arm covers the cable exiting the center section. Each arm is pivotally attached to the other end of the associated flange. The flange allows its associated arm to be moved over a wide range of horizontal and vertical angles (e.g., up to 45 degrees) and allows the arms to have a variable horizontal and vertical offset relative to the center line of the center section and insulator to accommodate a cable that is offset from the center line.

  • Publication number: 20130336205
Abstract: A sensor network includes a plurality of sensors and a base station for sending a series of data acquisition requests to the sensors. Each data acquisition request has an index. Each sensor has a synchronization calculation module and an internal clock. The sensors are adapted and configured to receive the series of data acquisition requests and record a timestamp of receipt for each data acquisition request. The sensors also store a predefined time interval related to the plurality of data acquisition requests so that the sensor can calculate a time to start collecting data based upon the series of data acquisition requests, the timestamps, the indices, and the predefined time interval. In an alternative embodiment, the base station only sends a general request for data acquisition and a synchronization sensor module receives the general request and, in turn, sends the series of data acquisition requests to the sensors.

  • Publication number: 20130264097
Abstract: A plastic retaining pin for being inserted through a retaining hole in a high voltage insulating cover has an oval cross-section. The pin has a compressible nose, with the wide part of the nose being larger than the retaining hole. The nose has a relatively long front portion that expands out from the tip at about a 15 degree angle for easy insertion through the retaining hole. A back part of the nose is relatively short and has a relatively steep angle of about 45 degrees so as to require a higher pulling force to compress the nose when removing the pin from the hole. The other end of the pin has a grasping hole for receiving the hook of a hot stick. If the retaining hole is oval, the grasping hole is at a predetermined orientation with respect to the insulating structure to ease removal using a hot stick.

The present invention has curves and indentions which makes the instrument safer and easier to use in the sport of object manipulation as the curved instrument is safer and easier to whirl, twirl, spin, toss, grasp, catch, bump and flip with virtually any portion of the body.

  • Patent number: 8489776
Abstract: An apparatus for synchronizing devices includes a central access point node configured to utilize a low latency protocol to transmit a series of synchronization messages to the devices, transmit and receive data acquisition commands and responses from the devices using a high reliability protocol different from the low latency protocol, and calculate and apply relative clock offsets for each device based on the series of synchronization messages. The apparatus may also account for failure in delivery of a portion of the series of synchronization messages by recording timestamp data at the devices to send to the central access point prior to the central access point calculating the relative clock offsets.

  • Publication number: 20130167010
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for generating a publication is provided. The method includes determining a template for one or more pages of the publication. A structured document for the publication is generated where the structured document includes entry fields corresponding to the one or more addressable blocks. The structured document is then sent to one or more entities to allow users to input information for different versions of the publication. After the entities enter in information, a structured document is received from each of the plurality of entities. Information in the structured document refers to version information. A design application version of the structured document is then generated from the different structured documents received from the plurality of entities. The plurality of versions of the publication is then automatically generated.

  • Patent number: 8439378
Abstract: Vehicle suspension assemblies including air spring assemblies and components of the vehicle suspension assemblies are described. A vehicle suspension assembly that is attachable to a pair of vehicle frame rails includes a pair of support beams and a cross member, such as a cross tube, extending between and connected to the pair of support beams. Each support beam includes a locator-tab and each air spring assembly includes a locator-tab-slot for receiving a locator-tab of a support beam. The cross tube is fastened to the air spring assembly via a retention strap that wraps around portions of the cross tube. The locator-tabs and locator-tab-slots may be operable, alone or in combination with the retention strap, as a lateral restraint. In this regard, the lateral restraint may restrain the air spring from moving in a lateral direction between two frame rails to which the vehicle suspension assembly attaches.
