  • Patent number: 9637340
Abstract: A system and method for automatic splicing of rolls of sleeve material used in various packaging markets is provided. The system will automatically splice the prepared end of a new roll onto the expiring end of the prior roll. The system performs an automatic cut and splice operation resulting in a butt splice of the two rolls with tape applied to both sides of the splice joint. The splice can be done in-registration to provide a consistent product repeat length between expiring and new rolls.

  • Patent number: 8406598
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for shaping an end of an optical fiber. The apparatus may include a frame and a clamp constructed to hold the optical fiber in a fixed location relative to the frame. The apparatus may further include a tip shaper supported by the frame and movable in a first direction toward and away from the clamp, and moveable in a second direction that lies in a plane transverse to the first direction to shape the end of the optical fiber when the tip shaper is placed in contact with the optical fiber. The apparatus may include an abrasive substrate which abrades the end of the fiber.

  • Patent number: 6146016
Abstract: A mating closure system includes a first closure element and a second closure element, where at least one of the closure elements includes a cut-out opening. Preferably both closure elements include matching cut-out openings. The cut-out opening may be formed in a variety of shapes, but an arc or elongated oval is preferred. The first closure element is placed adjacent an opening of a bag. The second closure element is displaced from the opening, such that when the bag portion adjacent the opening is folded down the first and second closure elements mate with the cut-out openings substantially aligning to form a handle with a resulting notch for accommodating a user's fingers.
