    Abstract: A rotor for an electric machine includes a magnetic core configured for arrangement on a shaft. An end ring is arranged on opposite axial ends of the magnetic core. A composite sleeve includes an annular body including an inner surface and an outer surface, and a polymer matrix encapsulating circumferentially oriented fibers. The composite sleeve includes a first tapered portion on the inner surface arranged adjacent to an axial end thereof and configured to facilitate press-fitting of the composite sleeve onto the rotor.

The present invention also relates to protein isolated from Clostridium thermocellum, including a repressor protein. The present invention also provides methods of using the isolated promoters and proteins from Clostridium thermocellum, including methods for directing inducible in vitro and in vivo expression of a protein or polypeptide in a host, and methods of producing ethanol from a cellulosic biomass.

    Abstract: An image stabilization apparatus and method for stabilizing the imaging of a high-performance optical system prone to imaging instabilities from thermal effects. Thermal instabilities within the lens, such as convection, can result in image placement errors in a high-performance optical system. The apparatus includes a heating element arranged on the upper surface of the optical system to provide heat to one or more gas-filled spaces in the optical system. An insulating blanket covers a portion of the optical system to uniformize the heating of the optical system and increase efficiency of the apparatus. The gas in the spaces is heated so that the warmer gases reside near the upper portion of the optical system, while the cooler gases reside near the lower portion of the optical system. This creates a stable thermal environment within the lens system, thereby stabilizing the imaging. Optionally gas can be flowed over the lower surface to keep heat from heating the lower portion of the optical system.

    Abstract: A process for producing laminated materials in which one or more polymer films are laminated to a metal strip by a combination of heat and pressure. Generally, polymer films are applied to both sides of the metal strip in a lamination nip which exerts a force of at least 15 kN/m. The nip rolls may also be at different temperatures, either by one nip roll being of conducting material such as steel and the other nip roll being of insulating material, or by actively cooling one of the rolls. This enables films having different softening temperatures to be laminated without risk of micro-blistering or of pick-up on the rolls.
