  • Patent number: 7962896
Abstract: A method and system for automatically configuring software distributed through a network. A server of the software vendor gathers certain information such as the user's name during a software download or purchase process, and generates a custom webpage containing software configuration information and/or a user id. The software being distributed includes an automatic configuration program. When the software is launched, the automatic configuration program finds the custom webpage and scrapes the necessary configuration information from it. The automatic configuration program then automatically configures the downloaded software using the configuration information. The automatic configuration program may also obtain additional configuration information from the server using the id contained in the custom webpage.

  • Patent number: 7752139
Abstract: A method and system for software license management that allows a user to easily move a software license from one computer to another and the software vendor to control unlicensed use. A server maintains user account information including computers licensed to run the software and computers no longer licensed to run the software. A computer is enabled to run the software in an initialization process, and re-enabled by the server from time to time in an automatic re-enable process. If a non-enabled computer attempts to run the software, the user is given a choice to acquire a new license for the computer, move the license from an existing licensed computer to the current computer, or exit. If a new license is bought or an existing license moved, the server updates the information of enabled and no-longer-enabled computers accordingly.

  • Patent number: 7710044
Abstract: A flashlamp drive circuit including a storage capacitor which is charged and selectively discharged in order to drive a flashlamp. A capacitor (116) is connected in parallel with each respective flashlamp (106) in a bank of flashlamps. Each capacitor (116) has a comparatively small capacitance so as to be capable of storing only a portion of the total energy pulse required to be delivered to the respective flashlamp (106). A controller, comprising a digital signal processor (118) and a microprocessor (120) is provided to control the operation of all of the flashlamps (106) in the bank via respective switch mechanisms (110). In use, each energy (or drive) pulse delivered to a flashlamp (106) is comprised of a plurality of smaller energy packets resulting from repeated charging and discharging of the respective capacitor (116).

  • Publication number: 20050280873
Abstract: Methods, apparatus, software, and systems of the present invention allow for optimization of color and shades of gray documents prior to their conversion to a monochrome format. If color/gray elements are identified in the document, the distance between them and their intensity is determined. If there are elements with the same or similar intensity in close proximity to each other, colors of some of the elements may be replaced with solid monochrome colors, and/or dithered surfaces, and/or monochrome patterns. Further, the elements may be outlined. These improvements make elements in the document more distinguishable after its conversion to a monochrome format. The described color optimization and outlining may have wide applicability in the Internet Fax technology.

  • Patent number: 6881212
Abstract: Wrinkles are cosmetically removed from a superficial area of mammalian skin tissue having an epidermal layer, a basal layer, and a dermal layer, by irradiating the dermal layer through the basal layer, the irradiation having an energy density in the range 5J/cm2 or less, and being selected to be absorbed by a chromophore in the dermal layer such that collagen present in the dermal layer is heated, while the basal layer remains intact so as to substantially inhibit contact of the dermal layer with ambient air.
