  • Patent number: 7515165
Abstract: Various systems, methods, and programs embodied on a computer-readable medium are provided for calibrating a laser power in an optical disc drive. In one embodiment, a plurality of marked segments of a calibration pattern are created on a label surface of an optical disc with a laser in the optical disc drive. The marked segments are created by the application of assorted quanta of radiant energy from the laser. The reflectivity of the marked segments is measured. Ultimately, the laser power of a laser in the optical disc drive is set for writing a label based upon the reflectivities measured for each of the marked segments for each quantum of radiant energy.

  • Patent number: 7391475
Abstract: A method of producing a display image comprises receiving image information representing an image to be displayed, producing an image formed of a plurality of images of different colors, and projecting the produced image along an optical path. The differently colored images have color intensities related to energy applied to a light source. A level of energy is applied to the light source during production of the image of one color that is different than the level of energy applied to the light source during production of the image of another color.

  • Publication number: 20080129650
Abstract: A method of displaying an image with a light modulator on a display device having a timing rate requirement includes image data for the image received at an input timing rate. A frame of the image is created from the image data and a resolution of the image data is matched to a resolution of the light modulator. A first sub-frame and at least a second sub-frame are defined for the frame of the image. The input timing rate of the received image data is converted to the timing rate requirement of the display device.

  • Publication number: 20080087303
Abstract: Core rods or other glass components associated with optical fiber preforms are cleaned by loading them into a number of first sleeves, and partially obstructing entrance and exit ends of the sleeves to retain the components. The sleeves are contained inside a second sleeve so that the entrance ends of the first sleeves face an entrance end of the second sleeve. A fluid delivery system supplies cleaning fluids to the entrance end of the second sleeve, so that the fluids enter the first sleeves and contact exposed surfaces of the loaded components. The fluids leave the exit ends of the first sleeves and purge from an exit end of the second sleeve. Separators may be placed between the components in the first sleeves to enhance cleaning action and to cushion adjacent end faces of the components. Cleaned components may be unloaded from the first sleeves without risk of contamination.

  • Patent number: 7227182
Abstract: Optical property normalization for a transparent electrical device is described. In an embodiment, an electrical device includes a plurality of laterally displaced regions that are substantially transparent. Each region of the plurality of regions includes a normalized surface that has an optical property that has a normalized value that is substantially the same, one to another. One of the regions includes a portion of an electrical component. Additionally, at least one of the regions includes beneath the normalized surface an additional surface and a spectral normalization structure. The additional surface has a value for the optical property that is not substantially the same as the normalized value. The spectral normalization structure is disposed with the additional surface such that the normalized surface of the at least one region exhibits the normalized value.

  • Patent number: 7187343
Abstract: A method of projecting a compensated principal image may include projecting a principal image onto a surface and projecting an intended calibration image onto a calibration area of the surface. The intended calibration image may be projected when the principal image is not projected onto the calibration area. The calibration image displayed on the surface is received and compared to the intended calibration image to determine an observed difference. Projection of the principal image is modified based on the observed difference.
