  • Publication number: 20240110327
Abstract: A drain system for a laundry appliance is provided. The laundry appliance may be configured as a clothes dryer having a heat exchanger to cool and condense moisture-laden air received from the laundry drum. The drain system utilizes a drain structure to catch condensate from the heat exchanger and evacuate the condensate to a sump area. A blower and blower channel moves the dry air from the heat exchanger back to the drum. To prevent negative pressure in the blower channel from moving the condensate to the sump area, an air channel between the blower channel and sump area provides air flow communication.

  • Patent number: 11540909
Abstract: Disclosed methods include formulating azobenzene-based polymer networks to induce a modulus change in a highly crosslinked polymer, in vivo, with no external heat requirement and using a benign light as the source of stimuli. A modulus change can be achieved via a coating on the substrate and within the bulk of the substrate via photoexposure. The azobenzene-based polymer network can be formed as a coating or in the bulk of a material from either a glassy composition comprising methyl methacrylate (MMA), poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA), and triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA) or a soft material comprising of long-chain difunctional acrylates. The disclosed technology also includes methods of biofilm disruption and removal from the surface of a substrate, and includes methods of inhibiting biofilm growth and cell attachment to a substrate.

  • Patent number: 10578411
Abstract: An explosive device, such as a munition or a part of a munition, has an explosive material surrounded by a casing that has one or more voids within the casing. The one or more voids define sizes and shapes of the fragments that the casing breaks into when the explosive material is detonated. The casing may be made using an additive manufacturing process, with the one or more voids fully between an inner surface of the casing and an outer surface of the casing. The voids may substantially define the size and shape of fragments making up a majority of the volume of the casing, such as 75% or more of the volume of the casing. The voids may change direction within the casing, for example branching and intersecting to define a plurality of rectangular (parallelepiped) or other shaped fragments.

  • Publication number: 20020104690
Abstract: A load-sensing element is formed from a block of substantially rectangular cross section which is braced on a first end and which is adapted to receive a load to be measured on a second end. The block is pierced by an opening which is shaped such that at least two joints are created on each of a top side of the block and an underside of the block. The two joints on one of the top side and lower side of the block are offset from one another so as to compensate for a force eccentricity which occurs upon non-central introduction of the load to be measured. And a single strain gauge is disposed on the block in a vicinity of one of the offset joints.

  • Patent number: 5183125
Abstract: A load-sensing element for a balance comprises a beam which receives the load at one end, with a horizontal recess. The bending points of two guide rods formed by sections of substantially reduced material cross-section on the upper and lower faces of said recess provide a parallel guide. The measurement signal is derived by means of two wire strain gauges at the bending points on the upper face. The lower guide rod has a shoulder between the bending points at which the external cross-section of the beam widens. As a result, the centrelines of the material cross-section of the bending points formed by this guide rod are mutually offset by a certain distance. In an alternative to the formation of the shoulder, wire strain gauges are provided at the bending points on the upper surface of the upper beam and on the lower surface of the lower beam.
