  • Publication number: 20070276608
Abstract: An optical interrogation system is described herein that can interrogate a label-independent-detection (LID) biosensor and monitor a biological event on top of the biosensor without suffering from problematical parasitic reflections and/or problematical pixelation effects. In one embodiment, the optical interrogation system is capable of interrogating a biosensor and using a low pass filter algorithm to digitally remove problematic parasitic reflections contained in the spectrum of an optical resonance which makes it easier to determine whether or not a biological event occurred on the biosensor. In another embodiment, the optical interrogation system is capable of interrogating a biosensor and using an oversampling/smoothing algorithm to reduce oscillations in the estimated location of an optical resonance caused by the problematical pixelation effect which makes it easier to determine whether or not a biological event occurred on the biosensor.

  • Patent number: 7296601
Abstract: An aboveground fueling facility includes one or more vertical fuel supply tanks, each of which is positioned on a reinforced mounting pad on a fueling island that also includes one or more fuel dispensers. Fuel is supplied from the vertical fuel supply tanks to the dispensers via piping that is secondarily contained within the reinforced mounting pad. Each of the vertical fuel supply tanks may have more than one compartment so as to permit different grades of fuel to be dispensed by the dispensers, including mixtures. Fueling lanes are defined between the vertical fuel supply tanks for permitting vehicular access to the fuel dispensers. A canopy for sheltering the fueling lanes is structurally supported by the vertical fuel supply tanks, and informational signage is provided on the canopy for providing information such as fuel pricing to the consumer.

  • Patent number: 7263700
Abstract: In a virtual machine environment, a method and apparatus for the use of multiple heaps to retain persistent data and transient data wherein the multiple heaps enables a single virtual machine to be easily resettable, thus avoiding the need to terminate and start a new Virtual Machine as well as enabling a single virtual machine to retain data and objects across multiple applications, thus avoiding the computing resource overhead of relinking, reloading, reverifying, and recompiling classes. The memory hierarchy includes a System Heap, a Middleware Heap and a Transient Heap. The use of three heaps enables garbage collection to be selectively targeted to one heap at a time in between applications, thus avoiding this overhead during the life of an application.

  • Publication number: 20070088253
Abstract: A vent cannula includes a tubular base having a primary longitudinal passage therein with a primary distal tip for insertion into a body vessel. The base has a tubular junction interconnected and extending at an acute angle having a secondary passage therein communicating with the primary passage. A flexible tube is slidably retained within the secondary passage. The flexible tube has a flexible distal portion with a flexible distal tip thereon, a flexible proximal portion with a side port therein and with a proximal handle. The flexible tube is initially positioned at a “first position” wherein the flexible distal tip is within the secondary passage; and is slideable to a “second position” wherein the side port of the flexible proximal portion is at the junction of the primary and secondary passages, and the flexible distal tip is inserted into the primary passage and extended from the primary distal tip to thereby extend the functional tip of the cannula.
