    Abstract: A viscoelastic cleansing gel composition which includes: a. from about 4 to about 25% an anionic surfactant; and b. from 0 to about 20% of an amphoteric surfactant; wherein the composition has a G′h at 63 rad/s in a range of about 500 to about 1000 Pa. and a &ohgr;c in a range of about 0.1 to about 2 rad/sec and; wherein the ratio of anionic to amphoteric surfactant is in the range of about 1:3 up to a composition which has anionic but no amphoteric surfactant.
