  • Publication number: 20040202268
Abstract: In a method for detecting a varying data rate in a data signal, with which data signal a bit is transmitted in the form of a signal edge generated at a particular nominal time, after triggering by an interrupt signal (IS) generated in an analog/digital converter (13), the times of occurrence (TA, TB, TC, TD) of the signal edges are detected and subsequently the edge intervals (T1, T2) determined from the times of occurrence (TA, TB, TC, TD) of the signal edges and subsequently the mean edge interval (Tm) determined from the determined edge intervals (T1, T2). From the mean edge interval (Tm) and a tolerance range of the mean edge interval (Tm) are determined an upper time of occurrence limit (OAZ) and a lower time of occurrence limit (UAZ), within which upper and lower time of occurrence limit a subsequent signal edge must occur in order to be valid for the detection of a current data rate from the mean edge interval (Tm).

  • Patent number: 6492981
Abstract: One embodiment of the writing instrument described herein comprises a pen-like device containing three accelerometers and three gyroscopes. Data from these sensors are processed via an Euler transform. Prior to using the writing instrument, the user holds the writing instrument in multiple predefined positions and sensor readings are taken. The sensor readings are mapped to the corresponding predefined positions. In addition, the sensor readings are compared to expected sensor readings to compensate for environmental variations such as altitude or temperature as well as for the possible tilt of a writing surface. The sensor readings are interpolated to map sensor readings other than those at the predefined positions to other writing instrument positions. When the user writes with the writing instrument, sensor outputs are used to track the writing instrument to define strokes made by the user.

  • Patent number: 6365252
Abstract: A flexural pivot assembly which reduces the number of component parts to five and reduces the number of operations in the manufacturing process is disclosed. The component parts include two sleeves, one inner flexure, one outer flexure, and one slotted tubular core that may be coated with a suitable bonding material. The core has a slotted end and an unslotted end and includes two pairs of diametrically opposed flexure slots each having substantially the same length as a side of a flexure so that the interlocked flexures can slide into the slotted end of the tubular core until they abut an end of the flexure slots and, at the same time, be positioned flush with the slotted end. The core further includes a pair of diametrically opposed travel slots.

One embodiment of the invention described herein includes a writing instrument containing acceleration sensors and angular velocity sensors. Data from these sensors are processed via an Euler transform to determine the strokes made with the writing instrument. Corrections may be made to improve upon the output of the Euler transform. The data describing the strokes may include graphical representations of the strokes actually made with the writing instrument. Data describing the strokes may be stored or processed to accomplish a variety of tasks such as recording information, faxing a message, recording an appointment, or other such tasks.

  • Patent number: 5851686
Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of a gating means in combination with a spontaneous infiltration process to produce a metal matrix composite body. Particularly, a permeable mass of filler material or a preform is spontaneously infiltrated by molten matrix metal to form a metal matrix composite body. A gating means is provided which controls or limits the areal contact between molten matrix metal and the filler material or preform. The use of a gating means provides for control of the amount of matrix metal which can contact the preform or filler material, which may result in less machining of a formed metal matrix composite body compared with a similar metal matrix composite body made without a gating mean. Moreover, the use of a gating means ameliorates the tendency of a formed metal matrix composite body to warp due to the contact between the formed composite body and matrix metal carcass.

  • Patent number: 5771499
Abstract: A face gasket made of a smooth, non-tacky, low durometer, chemically resistant closed cell resin foam is attached onto a goggles frame by injecting the resin into a mold cavity containing a contoured rim portion of the goggles frame. The contoured rim portion is intersected by multiple sprue openings that permit the pressurized resin to flow through the goggles frame and around the contoured rim during molding. The contoured rim portion is embedded within the molded gasket and sprue slugs extend through and fill the openings. The sprue slugs are integrally formed with the main body of the face gasket, thereby defining attachment links that permanently connect the face gasket in splash sealing engagement around the contoured rim and along internal and external sidewall surfaces of the goggles frame.

  • Patent number: 4829375
Abstract: The method includes locating a target on a printed circuit board laminate having a circuit pattern etched thereon and utilizing the target to locate the laminate in a punching device. Preferably two such targets are employed and the laminate is adjusted in the X and Y directions as well as rotationally to bring the target into prescribed relationship with reference markings whereby to locate the holes precisely in the laminate whereby to facilitate stacking of the same. In related apparatus two television cameras are employed to operate with two targets to feed data into a microprocessor which generates signals to cause an alignment of the laminate to be punched. With respect to punching mechanisms special techniques are employed to locate the centers of the targets so that these centers can be aligned with cross hairs to take into account the deviations possible in the configurations of the targets.

  • Patent number: 4568971
Abstract: Method and apparatus for effecting operations, such as punching holes in sheets of material at precise locations thereon. Each sheet has a reference marking thereon and is placed on a receiver one by one and is held in fixed position on the receiver. A T.V. camera views each sheet to detect the reference marking thereon and a visual display of the marking is produced on a T.V. monitor. Also produced on the monitor is a cross-hair grating with a coincident shaded box. The cross-hair grating is first aligned with a marking reference on a master sheet to establish a fixed relation between the cross-hair and the marking reference on the master sheet and thereby between the cross-hair and the operating system, for example, the punches for punching holes in the sheets. The master sheet is removed and the sheets to be punched are placed one by one on the receiver which is moved to align the reference marking on each sheet, as viewed on the monitor with the cross-hair grating thereon.

  • Patent number: 4506442
Abstract: Apparatus for stacking a plurality of laminate layers in registered superposed relation to enable the layers to be joined to form a composite board comprising a table having a surface on which a plurality of laminate layers can be successively stacked in aligned superposed relation on pins slidably received in respective apertures in the table. The pins rest on support members which are carried on a lower support table mounted beneath the surface of the table on which the laminate layers are stacked. The lower support table is raised relative to the stack of laminate layers after successive laminate layers have been placed on the pins so that a given projection of the pins from the laminate layers will be obtained.
