Patent number: 8782026Abstract: A computerized system and method for analyzing color consistency on automotive parts and for providing feedback on painting processes occurring in an assembly plant. The system and method facilitates data collection and analysis at numerous points during the assembly paint processes and the identification of possible adjustments so that parts are painted within a specified tolerance. Body and bumper parts are measured during an inspection process. Measurement and colorimetric data is stored in association with an identifier for the body part or bumper. Measurements relate to equipment and paint mix variables as well as environmental variables that influence the paint results. A software application facilitates analysis of the data and troubleshooting possible causes for color discrepancies. As the color trends away from a specified standard, paint process, including environmental, changes are made, prior to the painting of parts in the bumper or body so that color mismatches are prevented.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 2011Date of Patent: July 15, 2014Assignee: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Christopher Alan Poland, Michael Anthony Saunders, Masakuni Nishino, Steven J. Baker, David Michael Wellman, William Gregory Peck, Roderick Louis Hixson, John William McTighe, Diana Marie Bush

Patent number: 8646849Abstract: A support assembly for a surface treating appliance includes a roller having one or more tires, wherein the one or more tires are fused to the roller. The roller can include a polymer such as polypropylene and may also include a glass filled impact modified copolymer such as a 20% glass filed impact modified copolymer. The tires can include a thermoplastic elastomer such as a modified polymer including a mixture of polypropylene and an ethylene propylene diene monomer. The thermoplastic elastomer may have a hardness of from 55 to 95 Duro measured on the A scale, more specifically from 70 to 79 Duro on the A scale or from 80 to 95 Duro on the A scale.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2008Date of Patent: February 11, 2014Assignee: Dyson Technology LimitedInventors: Tom Vallance Hamilton Crawford, Michael Anthony Saunders

Patent number: 8438699Abstract: An upright surface treating appliance includes a main body having a user operable handle, and a support assembly for allowing the appliance to be rolled along a surface using the handle. The support assembly includes a yoke and a pair of wheels rotatably connected to the yoke, the yoke being shaped so that a section of the yoke lies between the rims of the wheels. A surface treating head is connected to the yoke. The main body is pivotably connected to the yoke for movement about a pivot axis passing between the wheels, and so that a part of the main body is located between the rims of the wheels. As the main body is pivoted about said axis from an upright position to a reclined position, the spacing between said section of the yoke and said part of the main body increases, and so a shield is provided for covering the gap so formed between said section of the yoke and said part of the main body to prevent dirt and dust from passing into the support assembly through the gap.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 2010Date of Patent: May 14, 2013Assignee: Dyson Technology LimitedInventors: James Dyson, Peter David Gammack, Stephen Benjamin Courtney, Michael Anthony Saunders
