Patent number: 10391502Abstract: The present disclosure is generally related to an apparatus having cutter elements for destroying articles such as paper sheets and a mechanism for separating at least a sheet from a stack in a tray. The separation mechanism can be activated by rotation of the cutter elements. In one embodiment, the separation mechanism is provided in the form of a helical mechanism configured for insertion into the stack and to receive separated sheets from the stack in between its space(s) as it is rotated. The separated sheets can fall via gravity into the shredder mechanism. Optionally, a paper feed mechanism can feed separated paper to the cutter elements. The tray can include an edge to assist in directing separated paper towards the cutter elements. One or more staple picking support mechanisms can also be provided to assist in separating sheets from a stapled set of pages.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2016Date of Patent: August 27, 2019Assignee: FELLOWES, INC.Inventors: Steven Carson, Tai Hoon K. Matlin, Shawn Michael Applegate, Dennis William Gruber, Dipan Pravin Surati

Publication number: 20190082823Abstract: A variable height platform system comprises a frame assembly, at least two leg assemblies, a drive mechanism, and a sensor. The frame assembly is configured to support and be removably connected to a tabletop. The drive mechanism is configured to either extend or retract each leg assembly in a direction substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis to set a height of the frame assembly in an elevated position for use. The sensor is configured to sense position and movement of a user in a predetermined area including an area of the variable height platform system and an area proximate the variable height platform system. The controller is operatively connected to the sensor and drive mechanism. The controller is configured to operate the drive mechanism in response to the sensor sensing the position and movement of the user in the predetermined area.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 8, 2018Publication date: March 21, 2019Inventors: Shawn Michael Applegate, Tai Hoon K. Matlin, James Edward Losser, Mark R. Gartz, Peter Maletich, Dipan Pravin Surati, Vadim Romanovich

Publication number: 20180154297Abstract: An air purifying system includes an air purifier mechanism, a controller, and a sensing device. The sensing device is configured to measure an air quality parameter of the air entering the housing via the air inlet to generate inlet air quality data, and to measure an air quality parameter of the purified air exiting the housing via the air outlet to generate outlet air quality data. The controller is configured to: receive the inlet air quality data and the outlet air quality data, compare the inlet air quality data and the outlet air quality data with their corresponding predetermined threshold ranges, and determine an action to be taken.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2017Publication date: June 7, 2018Inventors: Peter Maletich, Shawn Michael Applegate, Mitch Rydholm, Steven James Barnaby, JR., Tai Hoon K. Patent number: 9737842Abstract: An air purifying device includes an air purifier mechanism, a controller, and a sensing device configured to detect one or more conditions in a predetermined area proximate the air purifying device. The controller is configured to receive an input to select one of the predetermined operational settings to govern the operation of the air purifier mechanism. The air purifier mechanism is configured to operate in at least one of a plurality of modes of operation in each of its predetermined operational setting. The controller is configured to change modes of operation of the air purifier mechanism from a first mode of operation to a second mode of operation in response to its sensing device detecting a change in said one or more conditions in the predetermined area and based on the selected predetermined operational setting.Type: GrantFiled: April 25, 2014Date of Patent: August 22, 2017Assignee: FELLOWES, INC.Inventors: Tai Hoon K. Publication number: 20120184012Abstract: Novel reporter bacteriophages are provided. Provided are compositions and methods that allow bacteriophages that are used for specific detection or killing of E. coli 0157:H7 to be propagated in nonpathogenic E. coli, thereby eliminating the safety and security risks of propagation in E. coli 0157:H7. Provided are compositions and methods for attaching active bacteriophages to the surface of a polymer in order to kill target bacteria with which the phage comes into contact. Provided are modified bacteriophages immobilized to a surface, which capture E. coli 0157:H7 and cause the captured cells to emit light or fluorescence, allowing detection of the bacteria in a sample.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 19, 2012Publication date: July 19, 2012Applicant: PURDUE RESEARCH FOUNDATIONInventors: Bruce Michael Applegate, Lynda Louise Perry, Mark Thomas Morgan, Aparna Kothapalli
