  • Patent number: 4418527
Abstract: A system for cooling, cleaning and humidifying air entering an air breathing gas turbine. The air is first cooled on the dry side of an indirect evaporative heat exchanger and then moistened and cleaned by a fine water spray of distilled water obtained from a boiler heated with excess heat from the gas turbine and condensed by the moist cool air leaving the wet side of the heat exchanger.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 21, 1980
Date of Patent: December 6, 1983
Inventors: Leslie A. Schlom, Michael B. Dubey, Andrew J. Becwar
  • Patent number: 4156351
Abstract: A depressed wet bulb water cooler utilizing an indirect evaporating film heat exchanger having walls defining wet and dry sides. In a particular embodiment, the wet and dry sides are formed respectively as the opposite inner and outer surfaces of elongated hollow tubular conduits. Water from a load is applied across the inner wet side surfaces while intake air is drawn across the outer, dry side surfaces so as to cool the intake air to a first temperature. The cooled air is then flowed as working air at substantially the first temperature over the wet side of the conduits, and discharged.

Inventors: Leslie A. Schlom, Andrew J. Becwar, Michael B. Dubey
  • Patent number: 4137058
Abstract: An indirect evaporating film heat exchanger having walls defining separated wet and dry sides provide energy-efficient cooling to a gas compression system. In a particular embodiment the heat exchanger supplies a cool dry air stream and a cool moist air stream, respectively, to the power turbine's compressor inlet and intercooler of the gas compression system.

  • Patent number: 4107940
Abstract: Air is evaporatively cooled by water in which the evaporating water is kept separate from the useful air (cooled air stream) by means of a heat exchanger so that cooling is performed without the addition of water vapor to the useful air, and in which the working air, absorbing the water vapor, is drawn from the load. A heat exchanger is disclosed which operates by movement of the working air internally through tubular conduits countercurrently to water flowing downwardly on the inner surfaces thereof while the air to be cooled passes externally across the conduits.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 7, 1977
Date of Patent: August 22, 1978
