  • Patent number: 7428923
Abstract: There is provided a top plunger adapter assembly for use in controlling sand fouling of an oil pump system wherein the oil pump system reciprocates between upstrokes and downstrokes within a barrel, and wherein the oil pump system includes as components a sucker rod and a plunger. In one embodiment, the top plunger adapter assembly includes an adapter having a first end configured to receive a sucker rod, wherein the adapter includes a chamber which allows fluid movement therethrough; a collection cage rotatably mounted to the adapter, the collection cage defining an interior region, and the collection cage having an upper lip configured to direct sand toward the interior region of the collection cage during an upstroke of the pump; and a bottom cage attached to the adapter and the bottom cage having a bottom end configured to attach to a pump plunger, wherein the bottom cage includes a passage to allow fluid communication through the bottom cage to the chamber of the adapter.

  • Patent number: 5095977
Abstract: A coupon holder apparatus for measuring the rate of corrosion caused by formation fluid contained downhole in a borehole. The apparatus is useful when used in conjunction with a pumping unit of the type having a pump located at the bottom of a borehole and a sucker rod string extending downhole through a tubing string to actuate the pump. The apparatus has a main body which is connected in the rod string and suspended downhole in the borehole where it is in contact with the well fluids. An axial chamber is formed within the main body and radial ports extend through a sidewall of the main body to communicate the axial chamber with the borehold fluids.

  • Patent number: 4691942
Abstract: A quick disconnect cam locking fluid conveying coupling has a hollow male plug with there being an external circumferentially extending peripheral groove formed about the exterior thereof. The plug is received within a hollow socket and the socket has a pair of opposed windows aligned with the peripheral groove. Seal means interposed between the plug and the socket prevents fluid escaping from the coupling apparatus. A pair of cam members each have an operating lever and are positioned adjacent the socket with a cam portion passing through one of the windows and engaging the peripheral groove. A pair of ears is attached to the socket on opposed sides of the windows. A shaft extends through the ears and cam member so that each cam member is pivotally connected to the socket for outward movement of the levers away from the socket to disengage the cam for portions from the peripheral groove, thereby releasing the plug from the socket.

  • Patent number: 4494607
Abstract: Method of cleaning tubular goods, especially sucker rods, and inhibiting the sucker rods against corrosion as the rod string is being withdrawn from a borehole. The method is carried out by the provision of an enclosure which is attached to the upper end of a cased borehole. The upper end of the sucker rod string is extended axially through the enclosure as the rod string is withdrawn from the casing. A medial length of the rod string is engaged by a resilient packer device which wipes the rod clean of well fluids and loose debris. The rod string is next cleaned within a second chamber by impacting the outer surface thereof with an abrasive substance. The rod surface is again cleaned of any residual material. The rod is then moved through another chamber where corrosion inhibitor is applied to the external surface of the rod.
