  • Patent number: 7568724
Abstract: An airbag module including a module housing and cover is disclosed. The cover may include a molded-in channel to engage a flange extending from the module housing. The interaction between the channel and flange permit limited movement of the cover with respect to the module housing. The airbag module may further include hook and window engagement mechanisms as well as locking tab and window engagement mechanisms to couple the cover to the housing.

  • Patent number: 6439598
Abstract: An apparatus (12) for helping to protect an occupant of a vehicle (13) comprises an inflatable vehicle occupant protection device (14) having a deflated condition and being inflatable into a position to help protect the vehicle occupant. The apparatus (12) also comprises a housing (10) for mounting in the vehicle. The housing (10) includes a chamber (61) receiving the inflatable device in the deflated condition. The housing (10) includes a first housing part (60) having a locking rib (80), and a second housing part (90) having a locking groove (110) and an opening (114) into the locking groove. The locking rib (80) is movable in a first direction (70) through the opening (114) into the locking groove (110) for releasably closing the housing (10) with the inflatable device (14) inside the chamber. The first housing part (60) has a tool receiving portion (82) adjacent the locking rib (80).

  • Patent number: 6364349
Abstract: Apparatus (10) includes an inflatable vehicle occupant protection device (14) and a housing (26). The protection device (14) is inflatable away from a vehicle roof (18) between a vehicle side structure (16) and a vehicle occupant (182). The housing (26) includes an elongated channel portion (80) having first and second longitudinal edges (94 and 96) defining a chamber (82). A closure flap (100) extends from the first edge (94) and has an end releasably connected to the second edge (96) to enclose the protection device (14) in the chamber (82). A deployment flap (120) overlies the closure flap (100). The deployment flap (120) is adapted to move into a position overlying a side trim piece (150) and direct the protection device to inflate between the occupant (182) and the trim piece when the protection device is inflated.

  • Patent number: 6155598
Abstract: A side impact air bag (12) has a head portion (60) for, when inflated, helping to protect the head of the vehicle occupant (14) and a torso portion (50) for, when inflated, helping to protect the torso of the vehicle occupant. A housing assembly (20) supports the inflatable device (12) on a vehicle (16). When the inflatable device (12) is in the deflated condition, the head portion (60) is turned at least partially inside out and received inside the torso portion (50). The head portion (60) is the final portion of the inflatable device (12) to inflate. The inflatable device (12) has a first partially inflated condition in which the torso portion (50) is inflated forward from the housing assembly (20) and the head portion (60) is uninflated and inside the torso portion.
