    Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for treatment of the surface of a workpiece of aluminum or of an aluminum alloy, which is characterized in that the workpiece is brightened in an aqueous electrolyte by application of an electric d.c. voltage, the electrolyte having the following composition per liter of water: 1 H2SO4 (sulfuric acid) 85 to 340 g/l H3PO4 (phosphoric acid) 850 to 1360 g/l Al (aluminum) 8.5 to 43 g/l.
