Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus and a method for applying drinking straws to packaging containers. A drinking straw carrier is adapted to keep the drinking straw towards the wall of the packaging container while moving along a lengthwise direction of the drinking straw, from an application position to the leaving position. The drinking straw carrier comprises a rotatable roller having an axis of rotation arranged substantially perpendicular to the lengthwise direction of the drinking straw, and said roller is adapted to rotate in contact with the drinking straw.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method of operating an apparatus for applying drinking straws to packaging containers. The method comprises e.g. the step of adjusting the pitch, between the packaging containers being fed to an application device, by means of a pitch control device upstream the application device, such that the pitch becomes substantially equal between succeeding packaging containers and equal for all packaging sizes with an operational range of packaging sizes. The invention also relates to an apparatus being operated according to the method.

Abstract: A method for producing a lid for a secondary package, the secondary package intended to encase primary packages, wherein the method comprises: folding the lid from a cardboard blank, comprising: side areas along a length of the blank, and the method comprises: picking the cardboard blank from a magazine with a picking unit; moving the picking unit, holding the cardboard blank to a position adjacent to a folding unit; transferring the cardboard blank from the picking unit to the folding unit, whereby the folding unit acts as an anvil and the picking unit acts as a stamp; thereby folding the side areas of the cardboard blank to form long lid sides, and forming short edges of the cardboard blank to short lid sides by folding them and holding them together, to form the lid for the secondary package. The invention also relates to an apparatus for performing the method.

Abstract: A method for producing a secondary package, comprising a separate lid and tray, for encasing primary packages, the method comprises folding the lid from a first blank, comprising long side areas along a length of the blank and, at each of opposite short ends of the blank, two cuts are made forming two side flaps and a side cover, separated by the cuts, and folding a tray from a second blank, comprising side areas along a length of the blank. The method comprises folding the side areas of the first blank to form long lid sides; placing the second blank onto a substantially horizontal support rail, between operation flaps; thereby folding the side areas of the second blank to form long tray sides; loading the tray with primary packages; applying the lid to the primary packages, with the long lid sides between the primary packages and the long tray sides.
