  • Patent number: 7705540
Abstract: The invention relates to a high-pressure discharge lamp having a transparent discharge vessel, an ionizable filling which is arranged in the discharge space of the discharge vessel and electrodes, which extend into the discharge space of the discharge vessel, for the purpose of producing a gas discharge, as well as power supply lines, which are passed out of the discharge vessel, for the purpose of supplying energy to the electrodes, the discharge vessel of the high-pressure discharge lamp being provided partially with an electrically conductive coating, with the result that a capacitive coupling is produced between the coating and at least one electrode and/or power supply line. As a result, the starting properties and the luminous efficiency of the lamp are improved.

  • Publication number: 20080088253
Abstract: A method for operating a high-pressure discharge lamp having an electrical voltage with a periodically alternating polarity. According to said method, during the operation of the high-pressure discharge lamp, the lamp is monitored for flickering, the occurrence of vibration, and preferably the exceeding of static parameters (e.g. lamp overvoltage) of the high-pressure discharge lamp.

  • Publication number: 20070296349
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for operation of ah high pressure discharge lamp with a low-frequency current of alternating polarity, whereby the high pressure discharge lamp is operated during a start phase at a higher power than the rated power thereof. According to the invention, the high pressure discharge lamp is provided with a current, at least during the start phase, with a commutation time of less than or equal to 40 microseconds.

  • Publication number: 20050237004
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for operating a high-pressure discharge lamp using a bipolar supply current, which has a temporally cyclic waveform, and a predetermined electrical power, the high-pressure discharge lamp being supplied with an additional electrical power at cyclically repeating time intervals directly following the zero crossing of the supply current in order to stabilize the lamp operation, and the total power, averaged over time, corresponding to the predetermined electrical power.

  • Patent number: 5323089
Abstract: In a method for operating high-pressure discharge lamps in a pulsed mode to improve the light properties thereof, gating pulses for the high-pressure discharge lamp are in the form of pulse groups of bipolar individual pulses with a pulse width of less than 100 .mu.s. The repetition frequency of the pulse groups is higher than 100 Hz at a duty cycle of less than 0.8 and the individual pulses have a frequency of more than 400 Hz at an arbitrary duty cycle. A sinusoidal keep alive current or direct current is applied to the lamp between the pulse groups. The individual pulses can be spike pulses.
