Publication number: 20130329885Abstract: The invention relates to the field of data packet management, and more specifically to the field of managing of data packets in such a manner that power consumption is reduced, such reduction being especially beneficial for portable device applications. In accordance with an embodiment of the invention there is provided a method of handling and manipulating data wherein padding and unpadding operations for a packet of data are performed at the transmission/reception of a packet from a network, and data handling is minimized within the portable device. According to another embodiment of the invention there is provided a method of encryption for packet data absent the padding data.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 2, 2013Publication date: December 12, 2013Applicant: ELLIPTIC TECHNOLOGIES INC.Inventors: Stephen DAVIS, Michael BORZA

Patent number: 8583942Abstract: An F-RAM authenticating memory device and method providing secure mutual authentication between a Host system and a memory in order to gain read/write access to the F-RAM user memory contents. The device and technique of the present invention uses an Advanced Encryption Standard AES128 encryption module in conjunction with a true hardware random number generator and basic exclusive OR (XOR) functions in order to achieve a secure algorithm with a relatively small amount of processing. Due to inherently faster write times than that of conventional floating gate non-volatile memory technologies, the use of F-RAM significantly reduces the time available to interfere with a critical security parameter (CSP) update. Moreover, unlike floating gate technologies, F-RAM's read vs. write current signature is balanced making it less prone to side channel attacks while also providing relatively faster erase times.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2012Date of Patent: November 12, 2013Assignee: Cypress Semiconductor CorporationInventors: Kurt S. Schwartz, Qidao Li, Michael Borza

Patent number: 7574369Abstract: A software-based system and method for providing data collection, recording, billing, supply charges, and quality assurance for a mobile computing environment. Specifically, the present invention comprises a plurality of mobile, handheld computer devices to be used in combination with a main computer to facilitate the recording, manipulation, and reporting of data pertaining to a plurality of different patients in a hospital setting. The system includes handheld software that allows an anesthesia provider to log information related to a patient during an anesthesia procedure. A subsequent synchronization step allows that information to be automatically transferred to the main computer for storage and subsequent report generation and printing. The information can also be transferred to an attached or remote computer system (e.g., the hospital or insurance company computer network) for further processing.Type: GrantFiled: October 10, 2002Date of Patent: August 11, 2009Assignee: Eanesthesia Software LLCInventor: John Michael Borza

Publication number: 20040158752Abstract: A hardware implementation of the Transfer Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) software stack comprising multiple modular hardware gate level blocks used to implement the discrete functions required for link termination. These modules are designed using low power techniques to minimize the power required to achieve the data processing required by TCP/IP. These hardware blocks are modular so that they can be run at varying clock rates, or have various supply voltages provided thereto, depending on the throughput requirement of each block. Furthermore, at design time of each programmable hardware circuit (PHC) functional circuit blocks (FCBs) used to implement functionality within the PHC are optimized in accordance with predetermined parameters in order to obtain predetermined programmed PHC functionality, such as reduced power consumption or high bandwidth data throughput.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 4, 2004Publication date: August 12, 2004Inventors: Michael Borza, Neil Hamilton, Igor Gamayunov

Patent number: 6386036Abstract: A prodder with force feedback for detecting an object buried beneath the ground is disclosed. A probe is provided including a rod having a prodding end for prodding the object, there is also a transducer coupled to a non-prodding end of the rod for providing an acoustic wave to the object and for receiving acoustic waves reflected from the object. The housing has a first cavity containing a fluid and for supporting the probe such that the volume of the fluid within the first cavity is affected by the pressure applied to the prodding end of the rod. A force sensor is fluidly coupled to the first cavity for determining the change in pressure of a fluid within the first cavity. An electronics module is processing data related to the reflected waves, and to the change in the pressure of the fluid, and is providing data in order to compare the processed data with the stored value representing the characteristics of known materials.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2000Date of Patent: May 14, 2002Assignee: DEW Engineering and Development LimitedInventor: Michael A Borza

Patent number: 6109112Abstract: The present invention relates to an acoustic prodding implement for the detection of land mines which provides an indication of the material an object buried in the ground. An indication of mineral material such as rock allows the operator to confidently classify the object as safe, without carefully excavating it. This saves significant time in mine clearing. The device includes a piezoelectric crystal as an acoustic transducer acoustically coupled to a transmitting probe. The piezoelectric transducer generates an acoustic wave into the probe which contacts the object and tranmits the reflected wave. A signal processor compares a signal generated by the transducer with characteristic signatures of known materials to determine a match within predetermined limits. The implement includes a shock resistant coupler to maintain acoustic coupling between the transducer and the probe in response to shock or vibration.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1998Date of Patent: August 29, 2000Assignee: DEW Engineering and Development LimitedInventors: Michael A. Patent number: RE38148Abstract: A detector for detecting detonatable devices such as land mines has a search head with a probe having a tip for placing beneath the surface of the ground. The probe tip ultrasonically provides an indication of the presence of a metal or plastic material. A force sensor coupled to the probe time provides an indication of force at the tip a it is placed beneath the ground surface. Therefore, before too much force is applied to the tip, a user is warned and accidental detonation may be prevented.Type: GrantFiled: February 1, 2002Date of Patent: June 24, 2003Assignees: Dew Engineering and Development Limited, Her Majesty the Queen in right of Canada, as represented by the Minister of National DefenseInventors: Michael A.
