Abstract: A respiration rate measurement device comprising a tubular housing configured to be disposed over a nose and mouth on a face of a subject. The tubular housing comprises a proximal end configured to communicate with the nose and mouth of the subject and receive a transient pressure event from the nose and mouth and a distal end that opens to ambient atmosphere. The tubular housing is configured to guide a flow of air, generated from the transient pressure event, between the proximal end and the distal end. The respiration rate measurement device further comprises a sensor disposed within the housing. The sensor is configured to detect a respiration event by monitoring the flow of air within the tubular housing.
