  • Publication number: 20250137240
Abstract: A backflow preventer for preventing a reverse flow of water in a plumbing system including a body having an inlet and an outlet. The body forms an intermediate zone between the inlet and outlet. An inlet check valve prevents the reverse flow of water from the intermediate zone through the inlet. An outlet check valve prevents the flow of water from the outlet into the intermediate zone. An inlet pressure sensor, an intermediate pressure sensor and an outlet pressure sensor provide readings for the respective zones. A controller monitors a pressure differential between the outlet pressure zone and the intermediate pressure zone to compare the pressure differential to a pre-set range. The controller generates a warning/error message when the pressure differential is outside the pre-set range. The controller can also monitor an inlet pressure in the inlet zone to generate a message if the inlet pressure varies inappropriately.

  • Publication number: 20240396307
Abstract: A laser light source comprises a laser array comprising a plurality of semiconductor lasers on a diode bar having bar smile. The laser light source uses angular dispersion to distribute different wavelengths of light from the semiconductor lasers into different directions and a partially reflective surface to retroreflect a portion of the light that is normally incident on the reflective surface back to semiconductor lasers to lower the lasing threshold for those wavelengths. A portion of the light normally incident on the partially reflective surface is transmitted therethrough providing an output of the laser light source having increased collimation despite the diode bar exhibiting bar smile.

  • Patent number: 12083534
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a novel method to fabricate magnetic silica nanomembranes using thin polymer cores based on silica deposition and self-wrinkling induced by thermal shrinkage. These micro- and nano-scale structures have vastly enlarged the specific area of silica, thus the magnetic silica nanomembranes can be used for solid phase extraction of nucleic acids. The magnetic silica nanomembranes are suitable for nucleic acid purification and isolation and demonstrated better performance than commercial particles in terms of nucleic acid recovery yield and integrity. In addition, the magnetic silica nanomembranes may have high nucleic acid capacity due to significantly enlarged specific surface area of silica. Methods of use and devices comprising the magnetic silica nanomembranes are also provided herein.

  • Publication number: 20240211564
Abstract: In some aspects, a computing system may authenticate a user before blockchain functions may be performed and provide obstacles to prevent brute force attacks in decentralized computing systems or other distributed computing system environments. The computing system may use a smart contract to assist with authenticating a user. As authentication attempts fail, the computing system may increase a network usage cost associated with authentication. By doing so, the security of a computing system may be improved by making it cost-prohibitive for malicious actors to perform brute force attacks. Further, a computing system may use a variety of biometric information that may provide additional verification and security when authentication is performed.

  • Publication number: 20240200313
Abstract: A sprinkler backflow alert system includes a sprinkler system, a building fire panel, a backflow preventor including at least one shut-off valve, a fluid detection system, and a tamper switch. The backflow preventor may be fluidly coupled upstream of the sprinkler system. The fluid detection system is configured to detect a discharge of water from the backflow preventor and generate a water discharge signal corresponding to the backflow discharge. The tamper switch is configured to detect a change in a position of the at least one shut-off valve and generate a tamper signal in the event the at least one shut-off valve is closed or partially closed. When a backflow discharge event occurs, a signal is sent to the fire panel triggering the building fire alarm as well as sending an alert to the local fire department and facility owner.
