  • Publication number: 20190357079
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for extending the communication range of mobile communication devices. A long-range radio device is controlled by a control application on a host smartphone. The long-range radio device provides signal paths for two different radios, one employing a long-range (LoRa) modulation format, and another employing a high data-rate encoding such as FSK. The system provides graceful degradation in data rate as radio link distance increases and received signal strength decreases. In addition to switching between radios, variable compression and buffering are used to adapt usage to supportable data rates. Voice, other audio, video, text, binary, and other data formats are supported, as also a wide range of co-resident host apps. Unidirectional and bidirectional links can be used.

  • Publication number: 20180359678
Abstract: Mesh network routing methods and apparatus use link weights and node ranks to efficiently and quickly determine routes between source and destination nodes, with low consumption of computing resources and battery power. Link weights based on RSSI and SNR are suitable for wireless networks. Similar techniques based on analysis of analog link parameters extend the disclosed technologies to mesh networks on any medium.

  • Publication number: 20170048904
Abstract: A system and a method are disclosed for enabling communication between mobile communication devices. A mobile communication device receives a message sent by a sender, the message including a recipient, a message identification, and a payload. The mobile communication device determines whether it is the intended recipient of the message. If the mobile device that received the message is the intended recipient, the mobile device sends an acknowledgement response message to the sender of the message. Otherwise, if the mobile device that received the message is not the intended recipient, the mobile device forwards the message to a second mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20150271309
Abstract: The systems and methods of the present invention allow a radio communications device to attach to a mobile device via a protective case, the protective case housing the radio device and mobile device. When interconnected with the radio device, the mobile device may use Software Defined Radio capabilities to direct the radio device to perform a number of operations. For example, the mobile device may direct the radio device to receive weather information to be displayed on the mobile device, to act as a radio scanner, to provide two-way radio communications with a separate radio device, and/or to record the aforementioned communications on the mobile device. Moreover, the mobile device, acting through the radio device, may increase the power output efficiency of the interconnected devices. The mobile device may further identify a whitespace channel through which radio communications may be facilitated.
