  • Patent number: 8789400
Abstract: A vehicle seat back having a vehicle seat back frame and a method of producing the seat back frame can be used in multiple vehicles and includes a stamped first vertical frame member having a varying depth u-shaped and a roll formed second frame member having a constant depth u-shaped cross section and the first frame member is a common part used in multiple vehicles having a substantially constant height vehicle seat backs and the second frame member is cut to length used in multiple vehicles having different width vehicle seat backs.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: November 16, 2007
Date of Patent: July 29, 2014
    Assignee: Johnson Controls Technology Company
Inventors: Piotr Roszczenko, Stefan Funk, Michael C. Nazione, Charles R. Baker
  • Patent number: 8720996
Abstract: A dual front linkage system for a adjusting a vehicle seat includes a seat sub-frame member, a first linkage member, a second linkage member, and a base member. The first end of the seat sub-frame member is coupled to the second end of the first linkage member and the second end of the seat sub-frame member is coupled to the seat base, the first end of the first linkage member is coupled to the first end of the second linkage member, the second end of the second linkage member is coupled to the first end of the base member, and the second end of the base member is coupled to the vehicle. The linkage system enables the seat base and seat back to be folded forward and downward into a stowed position and allows the seat to be tumbled forward to enhance vehicle ingress and egress.

  • Patent number: 8322773
Abstract: A recliner mechanism (100) configured for selectively adjusting a seat back in a second row of a vehicle (10), such as a sedan, includes a close out device (200) in the form of an adjustable package shelf (210) of the vehicle (10) to cover a gap between the seat back (20) and the vehicle structure (11) as the seat back (20) is moved from the fully reclined position. This package shelf recliner mechanism (100) further includes a track system (110) mounted relative to the vehicle structure (11), a cross plate (130) coupled to the track system (110) and configured for translational movement relative thereto, a latch system (150) for releasably securing the cross plate (130) and an actuator, such as a handle or lever, for the user to selectively actuate the recliner mechanism (100).
