  • Patent number: 9162415
Abstract: An assembly includes a polymeric member and a unitary metal casting. The metal casting is engaged with and relatively moveably capturing the polymeric member on the metal casting. The polymeric member includes an opening extending through the polymeric member. The opening defines a rotational axis of the polymeric member and includes a central cylindrical portion and first and second end portions having diameters greater than the central cylindrical portion. The first and second end portions are disposed proximate opposite ends of the opening, and the metal casting substantially fills the central cylindrical portion and the first and second end portions of the opening, thereby rotatably disposing and axially capturing the polymeric member on the metal casting. The assembly can be adapted for use as a crank arm in a transmission shift mechanism.

  • Patent number: 9157522
Abstract: A shift control device for an automatic transmission comprises a referee shift control bracket mounted to a vehicle and an actuated shift control bracket that is actuated relatively to the referee shift control bracket. The referee shift control bracket cooperates with the actuated shift control bracket to define a path of travel of the actuated shift control bracket relative to the referee shift control bracket. The actuated shift control bracket is coupled, through a shift linkage system, to the automatic transmission such that a movement of the actuated shift control bracket along the path of travel to a first position corresponds to actuation of the automatic transmission into a first gear position. The referee shift control bracket cooperating with the actuated shift control bracket to define at least one detent positioned along said path of travel, said at least one detent corresponding to the first gear position.

  • Patent number: 8113081
Abstract: A universal shifter system that is adaptable to any of a variety of locations in a vehicle has a shift assembly with a frame supporting a shaft for rotation about a primary axis. An end of the shaft is exposed axially through the frame for circumferentially indexed attachment of either a shift arm or a cam device of the system dependent upon the selected system location in the vehicle. A side mount feature has a secondary axis that traverses the primary axis. The cam device rotates about both axes when selected. A shifter mechanism is supported by the frame and is constructed and arranged to rotate the shaft between park and drive positions. Preferably, a flexible park lock cable interfaces between the shifter mechanism and a start device of the vehicle to prevent the shaft from rotating from the park and into the drive position if the start device is not in a predetermined position.

  • Patent number: 7913583
Abstract: A transmission gear selector including a pivotal shift lever with a grip portion and an attachment structure that is operably coupled to an automatic transmission for shifting the transmission. A locking member pivots with the shift lever and is moveably engageable with an engagement surface that defines a park position detent. When the locking member is engaged with the park position detent, the shift lever cannot be moved out of the park position. The mechanical linkage includes a driver-operated member which, when actuated, causes the mechanical linkage assembly to bias the locking member out of engagement with the park position detent. A solenoid disposed within the grip portion is coupled with the mechanical linkage assembly and includes a plunger that can prevent the mechanical linkage from biasing the locking member out of the park position detent. An installation method for a gear selector is also disclosed.
