  • Patent number: 6484133
Abstract: An apparatus and method for sensor signal prediction and for improving sensor signal response time, is disclosed. An adaptive filter or an artificial neural network is utilized to provide predictive sensor signal output and is further used to reduce sensor response time delay.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 31, 2000
Date of Patent: November 19, 2002
    Assignee: The University of Chicago
    Inventor: Michael C. Vogt
  • Patent number: 6121882
Abstract: A process for indicating the likelihood of cook-off for energetic materials by calculating the heat flux and chemical venting relative to known crial parameters for the energetic materials. The process further may include an alarm.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 4, 1999
Date of Patent: September 19, 2000
Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Navy
Inventors: Warren K. Jaul, Gerhard W. Thielman, Michael C. Vogt, Rodney M. Harris, Jack M. Pakulak
  • Patent number: 5772863
Abstract: A sensor for O.sub.2 and CO.sub.2 gases. The gas sensor includes a plurality of layers driven by a cyclic voltage to generate a unique plot characteristic of the gas in contact with the sensor. The plurality of layers includes an alumina substrate, a reference electrode source of anions, a lower electrical reference electrode of Pt coupled to the reference source of anions, a solid electrolyte containing tungsten and coupled to the lower reference electrode, a buffer layer for preventing flow of Pt ions into the solid electrolyte and an upper catalytically active Pt electrode coupled to the buffer layer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 1, 1996
Date of Patent: June 30, 1998
    Assignee: University of Chicago
Inventors: Erika L. Shoemaker, Michael C. Vogt
  • Patent number: 5429727
Abstract: An electrocatalytic device for sensing gases. The gas sensing device includes a substrate layer, a reference electrode disposed on the substrate layer comprised of a nonstoichiometric chemical compound enabling oxygen diffusion therethrough, a lower reference electrode coupled to the reference electrode, a solid electrolyte coupled to the lower reference electrode and an upper catalytically active electrode coupled to the solid electrolyte.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 30, 1993
Date of Patent: July 4, 1995
    Assignee: ARCH Development Corporation
Inventors: Michael C. Vogt, Erika L. Shoemarker, Anthony V. Fraioli, deceased
