Patent number: 5494409Abstract: A vapor recovery system for use with fuel dispensing nozzles. The system includes a fuel dispensing nozzle and a vapor piping line operably connected to the nozzle for insertion into a tank for receiving fuel. The line has a small diameter with respect to the diameter of the fuel dispensing hose supplying fuel to the nozzle. A sump is connected to the other end of the line and has a source of vacuum for positively assisting flow of vapor through the line. The sump includes a filter for separating fuel from the vapor to produce vapor clean air. It also has both a vent for venting the vapor clean air and a drain for removing the separated fuel. The system preferably further includes a vacuum regulator means for regulating the vacuum in the vapor piping line by controlling the vacuum at about 1 to about 5 inches of mercury in the line.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1993Date of Patent: February 27, 1996Inventors: Michael C. Patent number: 5346625Abstract: A system for neutralizing petroleum products leaked into an enclosed portion of a fuel transfer system such as a sump. The system comprises the use of a water insoluble container having a quantity of a petroleum product mitigation agent enclosed therein. A water insoluble barrier for releasing the quantity of mitigation agent upon contact with a petroleum product permits the mitigation agent to neutralize the petroleum product as soon as it is present and in contact with the barrier. The container may be formed from polystyrene and positioned in the sump to permit the release to the petroleum products regardless of the amount of water present in the sump. In one embodiment, the tube is vertically aligned and extends from the bottom to the top of the sump. Alternatively, the container comprises a petroleum product soluble packet and includes flotation aid for maintaining the packet floating on top of any water in the sump.Type: GrantFiled: October 16, 1992Date of Patent: September 13, 1994Assignee: Environ Products, Inc.Inventor: Michael C. Patent number: 5333490Abstract: A pipeline system is provided for a pumping system for fluid products, such as gasoline, diesel fuel and chemicals, and including a pump for pumping such products from a storage tank through through the primary pipeline of the pipeline system to a product dispenser. The pipeline system includes a secondary containment system for the primary pipeline between the tank and dispenser which includes telescoping pipe sections of different diameters. The telescoping piping is installed around the primary pipeline and the pipe sections are, prior to final installation, movable between intermediate and final positions, for enabling completion, testing and inspection of the primary pipeline prior to final completion of the secondary containment system. One section of the telescoping piping is a flexible corrugated pipe which is able to bend around elbows. Compression seals and ring clamps are used to connect the components together.Type: GrantFiled: January 22, 1993Date of Patent: August 2, 1994Assignee: Total Containment, Inc.Inventor: Michael C. Patent number: 5297896Abstract: An environmentally safe underground piping system for liquid fuels and chemicals which interconnects an underground liquid storage tank to one or more above ground liquid dispensing units, that provides a complete secondary containment system for the entire primary liquid supply piping system. The piping systems employs one tank access chamber interconnected to one or more dispenser access chambers by a double walled pipe. The double wall pipe provides an interstitial space for gravity flow of any leaking liquids, from any point in the primary liquid supply piping system, to an access chamber, which also serves as a liquid collection sump, for purposes of leak detection.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1992Date of Patent: March 29, 1994Assignee: Environ Products, Inc.Inventor: Michael C. Patent number: 5271518Abstract: A cover for a sump assembly including a riser section of generally tubular configuration comprising a top section and a skirt section depending from the outer periphery of the top section. The skirt section being of a configuration defining a pair of side by side circumferentially extending inner and outer channels which open in opposite axial directions. One of the channels is engageable over a seal mounted on the outer axial end of the riser. A compression ring is engageable in the other channel to produce radially directed sealing forces between the cover and the riser section.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1992Date of Patent: December 21, 1993Assignee: Environ Products Inc.Inventor: Michael C.
