    Abstract: A method of manufacturing a flanged composite component is provided. The method includes coupling a composite structure to s first composite material. The method includes coupling a second composite material to the composite structure and placing a first expansion device within the composite structure. A forming element is coupled to at least one of the first composite material, the composite structure, and the second composite material against the mold. The method includes coupling a pressure element to the forming element to define a space among the mold, the forming element, and the pressure element. The method includes expanding the first expansion device to impart a force to the second composite material to move the second composite material away from the composite structure and into the space to facilitate forming a first flange.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a security sheet or document having enhanced watermark(s). In one exemplary embodiment, the inventive security sheet or document is a single-ply paper that is made up of a paper layer including one or more watermarks, and a micro-optic security device (e.g., a patch or thread) that at least partially covers an upper or face portion of the watermark(s). The overlying patch or thread increases the durability of the watermark(s), thereby allowing for the watermark(s) as well as reduced fiber density areas therein to be made larger, and for the reduced fiber density areas to be made thinner. In a preferred embodiment, the micro-optic security device projects synthetic image(s) that coordinate or link in with the watermark design(s). In a more preferred embodiment, the micro-optic security device offers a machine detectable/readable feature in the form of enhanced IR-brightness, especially when measured in transmission.

    Abstract: Storage divisions are selected for garbage collection by use of a first selection criterion that is based on an amount of storage capacity freed by reclaiming the respective storage divisions. The first selection criterion may be overridden by a second, different selection criterion in response to determining that a wear variance of the storage divisions exceeds a threshold. The second selection criterion may select a storage division to reclaim based on a wear-level of the storage division. Overrides of the first selection criterion may be limited to a particular override frequency and/or period. The first selection criterion may comprise a logarithmic comparison of the amount of invalid data within the storage divisions. The amount of invalid data in a storage division may be calculated in terms of recovery blocks, having a size that exceeds the size of the physical storage locations within the storage divisions.

    Abstract: An improved apparatus for conditioning the temperature of the air in a substantially confined space, such as a room, is disclosed. The conditioning system is complete and integrated in a portable unit suitable for insertion in a wall opening, such as a window. The operative elements are divided between two separate enclosures, each attached to a common structure, the support capable of resting on the window sill, with one such enclosure on each side of the wall. At least the heat exchanger conditioning room air is disposed in the enclosure in the room side of the wall. At least the compressor is segregated in the other enclosure, on the other side of the wall of the conditioned space. And both enclosures sit substantially below the sill line. Obstruction of the window opening is much reduced over prior art units. Installation is easier and safer.
