  • Publication number: 20050059454
Abstract: A gaming machine with an improved game display is disclosed. Polyhedral reel strips are used in a gaming machine to present game outcomes in configurations previously not practicable. In addition, the polyhedral reels provide a game display that is more easily readable than can be obtained from the traditional mechanical circular reel.

  • Publication number: 20050053261
Abstract: A method detects objects in a scene over time. Sets of time-aligned features are extracted from multiple signals representing a scene over time; each signal is acquired using a different modality. Each set of time-aligned features is arranged as a vector in a matrix to which a first transform is applied to produce a compressed matrix. A second transform is applied to the compressed matrix to extract spatio-temporal profiles of objects occurring in the scene.

  • Publication number: 20040102222
Abstract: A multiple access wireless communications architecture provides selective, simultaneous communications with wireless devices located in different sections of a spatial area around a communications apparatus referred to as “sectors”. This includes communications between wireless devices in a single sector, between wireless devices in different sectors and between wireless devices and a wired network or wireless backhaul network. The wireless communications architecture generally includes two or more wireless antenna arrangements that are each configured to provide communications with wireless devices located in a particular sector. Each wireless antenna arrangement is further configured to determine whether signals are being communicated on a communications channel before transmitting on the communications channel. This may be implemented, for example, using a carrier sense or energy detection mechanism.

  • Publication number: 20040064306
Abstract: A method selects recordings stored in a database. A spoken query is represented as a phonetic lattice and paths through the phonetic lattice are converted to a set of text queries. The database is searched to generate a playlist of recordings matching the set of text queries and samples of the recordings on the playlist are then played. A particular sample is selected as an acoustic query for searching the database to update the playlist with recording matching the acoustic query. Samples of the recordings on the updated playlist are played and a particular sample of the updated play list is selected. A particular record associated with the sample is then played.

  • Publication number: 20040008789
Abstract: A method segments a compressed video by extracting audio and visual features from the compressed video. The audio features are clustered according to K-means clustering in a set of classes, and the compressed video is then partitioned into first segments according to the set of classes. The visual features are then used to partitioning each first segment into second segments using motion analysis. Summaries of the second segments can be provided to assist in the browsing of the compressed video.

  • Publication number: 20020195486
Abstract: A system and method for rapidly and securely transferring funds electronically between two points comprises a server coupled to a network. The server contains software that receives an initiation funds transfer request from a first terminal via a network; generates a transaction number; stores the transaction number and data associated with the initiation funds transfer request in a memory location of the server; sends the transaction number to the first terminal via the network; receives a completion funds transfer request from a second terminal via the network; confirms that the completion funds transfer request is valid; updates the memory location to indicate that the funds transfer is complete; and sends a confirmation notice, which includes an amount of funds to dispense, to the second terminal via the network.

  • Publication number: 20010044719
Abstract: A computerized method extracts features from an acoustic signal generated from one or more sources. The acoustic signal are first windowed and filtered to produce a spectral envelope for each source. The dimensionality of the spectral envelope is then reduced to produce a set of features for the acoustic signal. The features in the set are clustered to produce a group of features for each of the sources. The features in each group include spectral features and corresponding temporal features characterizing each source. Each group of features is a quantitative descriptor that is also associated with a qualitative descriptor. Hidden Markov models are trained with sets of known features and stored in a database. The database can then be indexed by sets of unknown features to select or recognize like acoustic signals.

  • Patent number: 6321200
Abstract: A method extracts features from a mixture of signals. The method filters the mixture of signals by a filterbank to produce a plurality of band-pass signals. Each band-pass signal is windowed to produce a plurality of multi-dimensional observation matrices. The multi-dimensional observation matrices are reduced in their dimensionality. Features are extracted from the reduced dimensionality matrices using independent component analysis. The features can include temporal and spectral characteristics.

  • Patent number: 5915941
Abstract: A lighted slipbobber receives the fishing line along its vertical central axis to maximize stability and includes a blinking LED protectively encapsulated within the bobber body and laterally offset from the central axis. A light pipe extends from the offset LED to the top of the bobber and terminates in a lens on the vertical central axis. The LED is energized by an improved capacitive energy storage circuit within the bobber, and the circuit significantly increases operating time between recharging of the circuit. No batteries are carried by the bobber.

  • Patent number: 5655801
Abstract: A gate latch has a handle with a cojoined adjustably sized elongated rigid metal rod, which rod is rotatably disposed in sleeves frictionally retained within a drilled hole in a fixed post of a fence. The rod is formed with a plurality of spaced parallel threaded through holes. The handle has a transverse hole and is mounted to the rod by a bolt passing through the handle hole and one of the rod holes disposed at the end of the rod on the outside of the post. The rod is operably connected to a spring return locking plate for locking a gate rod which gate rod is fixedly mounted to an openable gate. The user first drills the post hole to receive the elongated rod slidably disposed in the sleeves, and then cuts the elongated rod to a length to accommodate the thickness of the post, and then attaches the handle at the hole adjacent the cut end of the elongated rod. The user in operating the gate latch rotates the handle downwardly which in turn rotates the elongated rod in the post hole.
