    Abstract: A direct drive wind turbine and an electric generator for the wind turbine are disclosed. The generator may include a stator, a rotor spaced apart from the stator and a main shaft defining an axis of rotation, the main shaft at least indirectly connected to the generator rotor. The generator may also include a bearing assembly supporting the main shaft and defining a center of deflection on the axis of rotation. The generator may further include a convexly profiled air gap defined between the stator and the rotor, the air gap having a maximum width in regions of maximum deflection and a minimum width in regions of minimum deflection, the regions of maximum and minimum deflection determined with respect to the center of deflection.
