  • Publication number: 20240102430
Abstract: A near isothermal machine for compressing or expanding gas having a piston in a main cylinder with a heat absorbing and releasing structure attached thereto. The main cylinder contains a substantially constant volume of liquid maintained at a substantially constant temperature and a variable volume of gas, the gas temperature being controlled to substantially the same temperature as the liquid by the movement with the piston of the heat absorbing and releasing structure. A compensator is provided to compensate for variations in the level of liquid as the piston moves in the main cylinder.

  • Patent number: 10655618
Abstract: A machine for compressing or expanding gas comprises a piston operating downwards in a compression stroke with respect to an inclined or vertical cylinder and upwards with respect to the cylinder in an expansion stroke. The piston has a heat absorbing and releasing structure attached to its bottom face. There is a gap between the piston and the base of the cylinder when the gas volume in the cylinder is at its minimum. The gap contains a hydraulic fluid which absorbs heat from the heat absorbing and releasing structure. A heat transfer surface containing fluid circulating to and from an external source maintains the hydraulic fluid at constant temperature. In one arrangement the heat absorbing and releasing structure comprises thin sheets of aluminium attached orthogonally to the bottom face of the piston.

  • Patent number: 9151839
Abstract: An imaging system (1) comprises a transmitter (3, 6), a receiver (3, 4, 6), an antenna array (2); and a controller (4, 5, 10, 11) for directing the transmitter, the receiver, and the antenna array to scan a volume containing an object. The controller has multiple distributed processors (15) to calculate antenna control pattern data during run-time. The processor (4, 5) assesses misalignment of antennae using a receiver placed in the imaging volume, and monitors level of energy received by the receiver and compares it with a reference energy level. Also, the controller performs on-the-fly modification of antenna control pattern data according to real time conditions such as mechanical misalignment of the transmitter, the receiver, or of one or more antennas. The controller may generate three-dimensional offset vectors to provide a profile of the offset across the scan volume, and the position of an antenna may be moved to compensate for the mechanical misalignment.
