    Abstract: An orthopaedic knee prosthesis includes a tibial insert and a femoral component configured to articulate on the tibial insert. The tibial insert includes a lateral articular surface and medial articular surface that is asymmetrically shaped relative to the lateral articular surface. The medial articular surface is shaped to reduce anterior translation of a medial condyle of the femoral component, while the lateral articular surface is shaped to allow a lateral condyle of the femoral component to pivot, relative to the medial articular surface, along an arcuate articular path. Additionally, one or both condyles of the femoral component may include a femoral articular surface having a curved femoral surface section defined by a continuously decreasing radius of curvature.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an improved surgical blade and trocar system for accessing the retina and other parts of the eye while doing vitreo-retinal and cataract surgeries, including surgeries for macular degeneration. The eye surgeon uses an improved surgical blade for vitreo-retinal and cataract surgeries having a generally flat, V-shaped, W-shaped, or “extended W” shaped cross-section. Using the improved surgical blade, the surgeon creates a multi-planar, self-sealing surgical wound, first by directing the surgical blade substantially perpendicular to the eye surface, then redirecting the blade to follow the general curvature of the eye globe, and finally redirecting the blade to enter the interior of the eye. The improved surgical blade is used with an improved trocar system having two main parts-a relatively rigid, wide-mouthed outer segment and a generally thin-walled, collapsible plastic polymer or metal mesh sleeve that spans the surgical wound and substantially molds to its contour.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a safer and more effective way to treat ophthalmic disease and to perform ophthalmic surgeries while reducing the risk of vision loss due to the inflammatory response in the eye. The invention generally relates to the use of fluoroquinolones to reduce inflammation due to ophthalmic disease or ophthalmic surgery, including treatments for macular degeneration, diabetes, and vascular ischemic diseases, and other ophthalmic diseases. One aspect of the present invention involves using an anti-VEGF medication along with moxifloxacin in treating ophthalmic disease and in reducing inflammatory response in the eye following surgery for treating diseases like wet macular degeneration. Another aspect of the present invention involves delivering a fluoroquinolone combination to the eye in a sustained delivery application or device.

    Abstract: An infusion cannula for use in clearing and preventing condensation on the posterior surface of an artificial lens during the fluid-gas exchange portion of a pars plana vitrectomy is described. The infusion cannula directs the flow of gas entering the eye toward the posterior surface of the lens. The moisture content of the gas supplied to the infusion cannula is minimized in order to increase the effectiveness with which condensation is removed or prevented. Additionally, the temperature of the gas supplied to the infusion cannula is controlled to further increase the effectiveness with which condensation is removed.
