  • Publication number: 20210033268
Abstract: The recessed lighting fixture includes a light source module and a driver housed within a unified casting, and within a shared outer casing. The outer casing may be coupled to a hangar holder that is movably coupled to a corresponding hangar bar. The outer casing, including the light source module and driver installed therein, may move both 1) in the length direction of the hangar bar and 2) perpendicular to the length direction of the hangar bar. The recessed lighting fixture may have less bulk and size than traditional recessed lighting fixtures. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

  • Publication number: 20210010647
Abstract: An LED downlighting apparatus includes a housing with a sidewall having a front facing edge and a back facing edge positioned adjacent to a ceiling when the LED downlighting apparatus is installed in an opening of the ceiling. A depth of the sidewall is less than one inch and a thickness of at least a portion of the sidewall is less than three millimeters. An LED board and a lens are coupled to the housing. The lens is disposed with respect to the LED board such that the lens is illuminated from a back side. One or more mechanical couplers snap fit the apparatus to a junction box installed and positioned above the ceiling such that when the apparatus is snap fit to the junction box through the opening of the ceiling, the housing appears to be surface mounted to the ceiling.

  • Publication number: 20210010663
Abstract: An adjustable lighting apparatus includes a lighting module that is rotatably adjustable about a first rotation axis relative to an adjustable mount. The lighting module may include a heat sink, a driver, and a light source. The adjustable mount may include a base structure, a retainer, a shield, and a secondary shield. A trim may also be coupled to the adjustable mount. In some implementations, the lighting module translates along a first translation axis defined by the adjustable mount while rotating about the first rotation axis in order to reorient the light source while reducing shading losses caused by the adjustable mount. Openings in the base structure and the shield may be substantially covered at all rotational positions of the lighting module using a combination of the shield, the trim, the heat sink, and the secondary shield, thus eliminating the need for an additional enclosure.

  • Publication number: 20200386375
Abstract: An apparatus comprising an enclosure including a sidewall having an exterior shape defined at least in part by a plurality of sides, at least one curve, an ellipsoid, a cone, a cylinder, a polygon or a polyhedron. The enclosure forms a cavity, surrounded by the sidewall, to contain electrical wires providing a connection to mains electricity power from an electrical system of a building. A first telescoping hangar bar assembly is disposed on and in direct contact with a first portion of the sidewall of the enclosure, and a second telescoping hangar bar assembly is disposed on and in direct contact with a second portion of the sidewall of the enclosure opposite to the first portion of the sidewall.

  • Publication number: 20200348000
Abstract: A housing has a sidewall that surrounds an interior cavity that has an open rear end and an open front end, and is divided by a partition into a top cavity and a bottom cavity. The top cavity extends to the open rear end, the bottom cavity extends to the open front end. A power supply circuit board is inside the top cavity, while a light source is inside the bottom cavity and emits light through the open front end to illuminate a room. First wires pass through an opening in the partition, and are coupled to the power supply circuit board at one end and to the light source at another end, to deliver power to the light source. A lid or cover covers the open rear end enclosing the top cavity, and is secured to the housing. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.

  • Patent number: 10816169
Abstract: A lighting apparatus includes a housing structure having a rear face, a sidewall, a front end face, a partition to divide an interior cavity of the housing structure into a top portion and a bottom portion, and at least one exterior width dimension such that at least a portion of the housing structure fits into a space having a width of less than 3.5 inches. A light source module is positioned in the bottom portion of the housing structure, and an AC to DC converter is positioned in the top portion of the housing structure to power the light source module. A reflecting element is positioned to direct light produced by the light source module out of the housing structure. At least a portion of a front surface of a substantially flat lens is substantially coplanar with an exterior surface of the front end face of the housing structure.

  • Patent number: 10816148
Abstract: A recessed lighting system includes a casting, a light source module and one or more optic elements disposed in the casting, and a driver to power the light source module. In one example, the system also includes a junction box or a 4-10 inch recessed lighting fixture enclosure in which the casting is disposed. The system may also include a trim to cover an exposed edge of a hole in a ceiling or a wall into which the recessed lighting system is installed. The system also may include one or more connecting mechanisms to couple the trim to one or both of the junction box/enclosure and the casting. In one example, the casting includes a front end face and the one or more connecting mechanisms couple the trim to the front end face of the casting. The connecting mechanism(s) may include a twist-and-lock friction connection.

  • Patent number: 10663127
Abstract: A thin profile surface mount LED lighting apparatus includes a housing, an LED board including multiple LEDs, and a lens. The lens has a back side facing the LED board and a front side that provides a downward facing surface when the LED lighting apparatus is installed in an opening of a ceiling. The lens is disposed with respect to the LED board such that the LEDs illuminate the back side of the lens. A first spacing of the LEDs causes resulting light from the downward facing surface of the lens to be substantially uniform during operation of the apparatus. In one example, a thin front edge of a sidewall of the housing, forming a perimeter around the lens, is flush with the lens and is appreciably thin (e.g., a thickness of less than three millimeters), and a depth of the sidewall housing is less than one inch.
