Patent number: 11926735Abstract: The invention relates to cyanate ester resin blends containing resveratrol-based cyanate esters. At room temperature, the cyanate ester resin blend offers improved processability by remaining a liquid or forming a solid that melts at less than 70° C. The cyanate ester resin blend includes a resveratrol-based cyanate ester and a flexible cyanate ester having a configuration different than that of the resveratrol-based cyanate ester, where the resveratrol-based cyanate ester is no more than 80% of the total mass of the cyanate esters in the cyanate ester resin blend. A composite product can include the cyanate ester resin blend and a support material. When making the composite product, the support material is combined with the cyanate resin blend and cured at temperatures ranging from about 100° C. to about 300° C.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2021Date of Patent: March 12, 2024Assignee: The United States of America, as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Benjamin G. Harvey, Michael D. Garrison

Patent number: 11898082Abstract: This invention describes resins with phosphate cores and a simple, three-step process for their synthesis. Preferred resins are cyanate ester resins with bridging phosphate groups. These resins can be cured to produce thermoset polymers having Tgs of between 131 and >360° C. depending on the number of cyanate ester groups per phosphate and the substitution pattern of the aromatic rings. The high char yields of these resins, up to about 67%, coupled with the phosphate core means that these materials will have applications as fire-resistant polymers. Additionally, these materials can potentially be blended with conventional cyanate esters or other compatible thermosetting resins to improve the fire resistance of composite materials. Other applications may include use in fire-resistant circuit boards, or as surface coatings to reduce flammability of conventional composite materials or thermoplastics.Type: GrantFiled: October 7, 2020Date of Patent: February 13, 2024Assignee: The United States of America, as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Benjamin G. Harvey, Andrew P. Chafin, Michael D. Garrison

Patent number: 9381339Abstract: Drug delivery connectors are provided for permitting and blocking fluid flow between a container and a catheter connector or other drug delivery site. Embodiments of the drug delivery connectors include a ball valve for forming a releasable seal within the drug delivery connectors. In one or more embodiments, the ball valve prevents fluid flow between an open proximal end and an open distal end of the drug delivery connector and is movable in a proximal direction to release the releasable seal to permit fluid flow from the open proximal direction to the open distal direction. Methods of delivering medication to a catheter connector that includes an actuator are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2015Date of Patent: July 5, 2016Assignee: Becton, Dickinson and CompanyInventors: Yongxian Wu, Yun Jin, Mitali Aon, Michael D. Publication number: 20120209097Abstract: Sensors and methods for producing them are disclosed. A cavity is created and filled with a reagent that includes a conductive matrix, enzyme, catalyst, and binding agent, in a preferred embodiment. The cavity is substantially enclosed, leaving enough of an opening to allow the sample to enter. A portion of the material surrounding the cavity is preferably permeable to a substance useful for measuring reaction, but not to the reagent or the sample. Cavities that have the shape of a cone, conical frustum, pyramidal frustum, and right circular cylinder are given as examples. Other systems include a membrane that contains the sensor's active area and defines an internal volume of fluid, where the membrane or internal volume has a particular geometric relationship to the active area.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 26, 2012Publication date: August 16, 2012Inventors: Andre MANG, Harvey B. BUCK, Walter JERNIGAN, Michael D. Garrison
