Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for caching data in mobile devices to improve field assessment capabilities in a relief management system. The system analyzes captured geolocation information associated with one or more mobile field devices to identify a set of data to be cached by a mobile field device. The system then communicates the set of data to be cached to the mobile field device. The data cached is predicated upon the predicted likely location of field assessment operations and the data includes server-side image tiles.

Abstract: A method of friction stir welding is provided. The method includes providing a stir tool configured to rotate about and move along a stir tool axis and includes a pin with a pin axial end surface and a pin tapered surface that extends radially outwardly from the pin axial end surface. The method further includes providing the first member with a first member faying surface and defining a normal line that is normal to the first member top surface, is perpendicular to a longitudinal axis, and extends through a reference point. The method further includes providing the second member with a second member faying surface and forming a joint interface between the first and second members. The method further comprises contacting the rotating pin with the second member faying surface, the stir tool axis being disposed at a side tilt angle upon contact.

Abstract: A system and method includes providing a database having a plurality of damage characterization data and a geographical location associated with each. A first and a second portable communication unit are associated, respectively, with a first subscribing party and a second subscribing party. A sharing privilege list identifies, for the first subscribing party, parties authorized to receive damage assessment data. A damage assessment report is transmitted from the first of the portable communication units to the database. The database is updated based on the damage assessment report. Then, depending on whether or not the second subscribing party is on the sharing privilege list, a data is communicated to the second of the portable communication units reflecting, or based on, the damage assessment report.
