  • Patent number: 6029316
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for effecting sample-specific cycles for the environmental conditioning of material samples, such as cotton samples, prior to testing; and for the environmental conditioning of testing laboratory space, a sub-space or "oasis zone" within the testing laboratory space and/or a test zone within a testing machine. A sensor measures at least one material property of the sample, such as moisture content of a cotton sample. Based on the material property, a sample-specific conditioning cycle is determined and effected by driving through the sample a gas flow conditioned as to at least one parameter which affects properties of the sample, such as a temperature, relative humidity, and volume per unit time, and all of which are relevant in the case of a cotton sample.

  • Patent number: 5441998
Abstract: A composition is provided which, when added to an elastomer or tackifier, renders a repulpable hot melt adhesive. The compositions consists of an alkoxylated alcohol of the formulaA-B (I)wherein A is the unit ##STR1## and B is the unit ##STR2## and further wherein R and R.sub.1 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and a C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl group; R.sub.2 is hydrogen or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl group; x is between about 1 to about 142; and y is between about 2 to about 817, provided the weight ratio of B/A+B is between 51 and 90 percent. Such adhesive compositions may further contain wax or a primary linear polymeric alcohol. When combined with an elastomer and tackifier, such adhesives are repulpable and thus have particular applicability when used in combination with recyclable paper.

  • Patent number: 5436287
Abstract: The present invention relates to a repulpable laminating adhesive which contains an elastomer, tackifier and a 5:95 to 100:0 by weight blend comprising a high molecular weight oxygen-containing polymer and a wax.The oxygen-containing polymer is preferably of the formulaA-B (I)wherein A is represented by a unit of the formula ##STR1## and B is represented by a unit of the formula ##STR2## and further wherein R and R.sub.1 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and a C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl group; R.sub.2 is hydrogen or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl group; x is greater than or equal to 1 but less than 70; and y is between about 0 to about 45; provided the weight percent of B/A+B is between 0 and 50 percent and the molecular weight of the A unit is less than 2,000.

  • Patent number: 5414039
Abstract: A composition is which, when added to an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer having 40 to 60 weight percent of vinyl acetate units, renders a repulpable hot melt adhesive comprises a tackifier and an oxygen-containing polymer. The oxygen-containing polymer may be either (i) a high molecular weight carboxylic acid; (ii) a ethylenically unsaturated cyclic anhydride graft polyolefin or (iii) a primary linear polymeric alcohol of the formulaA-Bwherein A is represented by a unit of the formula ##STR1## and B is represented by a unit of the formula ##STR2## where R and R.sub.1 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and a C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl group; R.sub.2 is hydrogen or a C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl group; x is greater than or equal to 1 but less than 70; and y is between 0 about 45; provided the weight ratio of B/A+B is between 0 and 50 percent. The molecular weight of the alkyl unit of the oxygen-containing polymer is less than 2,000.

  • Patent number: 4619668
Abstract: A cellulosic fabric is treated with a crosslinking agent selected from the group consisting of: an adduct from an amide and glyoxal, an acetal derived from a dialdehyde and an aldehyde other than formaldehyde and an acidic catalyst. The catalyst and crosslinking agent is of sufficient amount and concentration to impregnate the fabric and produce wrinkle-resistance and smooth-drying finishes when dried from about 3-10 minutes at from about 60.degree.-100.degree. C. and then cured from about 1-5 minutes at from about 120.degree.-180.degree. C. The resultant fabric is then dyed.
