Abstract: The present invention provides a safety device for a door adapted to prevent the door from being slammed. The device is installed within a recess provided in the door and comprises a housing adapted to be inserted within the recess, a tongue provided in the housing wherein the tongue is adapted to move between a first position in which it partially protrudes outwardly from the recess and a second position in which it is fully inserted within the recess. The tongue is in the first position when the door is open and is in a second position when the door is closed. When the door is unintentionally slammed into the jamb, the tongue collides in the jamb preventing the door from being fully closed and when the door is intentionally closed, the tongue is withdrawn to within the recess using the door handle so as to allow full closure of the door upon the jamb.
