  • Publication number: 20120098294
Abstract: A multiple layer trim door module for a vehicle door is provided, the multiple layer trim door module having: a separately formed structural member having at least one column and at least one bar crossing each other to form a structural space frame grid, wherein the separately formed structural member is formed by a plastic molding process wherein the at least one column and at least one bar have a first structural rigidity associated therewith; a separately formed trim back plate with reduced structural properties attached to the structural member, wherein the separately formed trim back plate is formed by a plastic molding process and the separately formed trim back plate has a second structural rigidity associated therewith, the second structural rigidity being less than the first structural rigidity; and door trim with reduced structural properties attached to trim back plate.

  • Patent number: 7318605
Abstract: Knee support element for motor vehicles for absorbing energy in a knee region in case of a crash of the vehicle, including a first deformation element for absorbing energy upon impact of the knees in a first impact zone and a second deformation element for absorbing energy upon impact of the knees in a second impact zone, where the first deformation element is linked to the second deformation element in order to deform the second deformation element and thereby limit the resistance of the second deformation element against deformation, upon impact on the first impact zone.

  • Publication number: 20060113777
Abstract: An airbag system including an airbag housing, for containing an airbag, a chute channel for guiding the airbag towards a passenger cabin upon inflation and an instrument panel (IP), separating the airbag housing and the chute channel from the passenger cabin where the chute channel is adapted to be deformed in case of impact on the IP, in order to absorb head impact energy exerted on the IP.

  • Publication number: 20030067190
Abstract: A structural member (10) for a motor vehicle formed from metallic material, having a tubular configuration, and extending longitudinally, the structural member comprising a first substantially flat planar side (12) having first and second longitudinal edges (14,16); a second side (18) connected to the first side at or adjacent to the first longitudinal edge and at an angle to the first side; a third side (20) connected to the first side at or adjacent to the second longitudinal edge and at an angle to the first side; and a curved side (26) connecting the second and third members such that the cross-section of the structural member is substantially D-shaped. Provides a structural member which maintains a deformation force at a high level, and without collapsing.

  • Patent number: 6148564
Abstract: A module (16) for mounting in an aperture (14) in the inner panel (12) of a door (10) of a motor vehicle includes a structural member (18) having a central portion (20) and arms (22) extending away from the central portion in different directions. Each arm has a free end (26) secured to the inner panel such that the arms extend across the aperture when the structural member is mounted on the inner panel. A support panel (28) is secured to the structural member and at least one door component (34-40) is mounted on the support panel and/or the structural member.

  • Patent number: 6003931
Abstract: A swivelling or sliding hatchback of a vehicle is designed using materials of lower weight densities to form the inner and outer skins of the hatch, to reduce the overall weight of the hatch. The hatchback (1) includes a supporting frame (2) formed from an open or closed steel section, an outer skin (3) and an inner skin (4) formed from a light metal or plastic and mounted on the supporting frame (2) The inner skin (4) is essentially formed by reinforcing ribs (14) and by section rails (19). The hatchback of this structure is particularly suited for passenger vehicles.

  • Patent number: 5692797
Abstract: An impact bracket for a side wall of a vehicle or the like has at least one trough-shaped profiled rail which is open along its length and has a central region and end regions. The profiled rail in the central region when compared with the end region forms a reinforcing part which increases a resistance moment against bending, the reinforcing part having an increased cross-section in the central region.
