The apparatus has an interface configured to receive electrical power from an electrical power source. The interface is connectable to an electronic device to provide electrical power from the electrical power source to the electronic device, and receive data from the electronic device. The data received from the electronic device includes identification information to identify the electronic device. The apparatus has a communication device configured to send the identification information to the remote host. The remote host has a communication device configured to receive the identification information about the electronic device connected to the interface.

Abstract: A modular electrical accessory for a building has a housing for attaching to a building structure and an electrical backplane mounted in the housing. The electrical backplane is configured to be electrically wired to an electrical circuit associated with the building. A user-replaceable electrical accessory module is removably connectable by a user to an electrical bus and a control bus of the modular electrical accessory.
