    Abstract: A lubricating oil composition comprising a lubricating oil and the product derived from the reaction of (1) hexamethylene tetramine with (2) a phenol, a methylene bis-phenol or a sulphurised phenol provided that in said phenol, methylene bis-phenol or sulphurised phenol at least one of the 2,4 and 6 positions of the phenol aromatic ring is unsubstituted. In such lubricating oils the reaction product acts as an ashless detergent.
