  • Patent number: 8277881
Abstract: A coating composition useful for building materials products, especially roofing surfaces, is provided. The coating composition provides durable exterior protection to surfaces that it applied to, and it has reflective properties. The coating composition includes a mixture of a polymeric binder, a polymeric carrier and a pigment. The pigment is present in the coating composition in amount that is capable of providing a coating that has an initial energy efficiency rating greater than or equal to 0.65 for a low-sloped roof, or an initial energy efficiency greater than or equal to 0.25 for a steep-sloped roof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 21, 2004
Date of Patent: October 2, 2012
    Assignee: Building Materials Investment Corporation
Inventors: Amir Khan, Michael De Souto
  • Publication number: 20110064874
Abstract: A method of applying a powder coating composition during manufacture of modified bitumen roll roofing membranes, is provided. The coating composition is heat activated providing greater adherence to surfaces that it applied to, and greater reflective properties. The coating that has an initial energy efficiency rating greater than or equal to 0.65 for a low-sloped roof, or an initial energy efficiency greater than or equal to 0.25 for a steep-sloped roof.

  • Publication number: 20060273290
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a fire retardant composition, comprising: a primer solution; expandable graphite particles; triethyl phosphate; and aluminum trihydrate, wherein the triethyl phosphate comprises from about 1 wt. % to about 15 wt. % based on the weight of the composition.

  • Publication number: 20060240224
Abstract: A roofing product with a higher reflectivity is provided having a roofing material, and fine granules adhered to the roofing materials that are double-coated with a coating having a white pigment. A top white coating composition can be applied to the granules after the granules are applied to a roofing material. Further, a process of manufacturing a roofing product is provided, where fine granules that are double-coated with a coating having a white pigment are applied to a roofing material, and a top coating composition is then applied to the fine granules.

  • Publication number: 20060003651
Abstract: A building material product and a method of making building material products, having increased resistance to granule rub off and staining. The building material product comprises a substrate having embedded granules and an acrylic latex coating positioned on the granules, where the polymer of the acrylic latex coating has the repeating structural unit [CH2—C(R1)(R2)], where R1 is hydrogen or C1-C8 alkyl; R2 is hydrogen, cyano or —COOR; and R is a linear or branched hydrocarbon containing 1-22 carbon atoms, with the proviso that R1 and R2 are both not hydrogen. The method includes applying this acrylic latex water based composition to a granule embedded substrate.
