  • Patent number: 11456985
Abstract: Embodiments described herein include apparatuses, computer program products, and methods for data management in a group-based communication system. Specifically, some embodiments address data management for group-based communication channel(s) accessible to any number of entities based on various data retention policies. In this regard, embodiments enable maintenance of data associated with multiple organizations accessing a group-based communication channel based on a single, shared data retention policy, or different data retention policies, for example based on authorship of the group-based communication message. In embodiments, a data retention policy may be assigned directly to an entity, or assigned to a higher-level or lower-level entity and function as a default data a retention policy for other entities associated therewith.

  • Patent number: 11445029
Abstract: Integrated workspaces on a communication platform are described. In an example, a user account can be associated with at least two group identifiers thereby associating the user account with at least two workspaces. A first group identifier can correspond to a first workspace within which a first group communicates via a communication platform and a second group identifier can correspond to a second workspace within which a second group communicates via the communication platform. A user interface can be presented via a user computing device operable by a user associated with the user account, wherein the user interface integrates data associated with each of the at least two workspaces with which the user is associated. That is, the user is able to access data associated each of the at least two workspaces via a user interface that presents data from each of the at least two workspaces.

  • Patent number: 11425131
Abstract: Verification of entities associated with a communication platform are described. An instruction to create a communication channel on a communication platform is received. The communication channel can be associated with an organization that is registered with the communication platform. Data associated with an entity (e.g., the organization and/or a user associated therewith) can be analyzed to determine whether to verify the entity. Based at least partly on a determination that the entity is verified, an indicator can be presented in association with the entity on a user interface associated with the communication platform and a first set of permissions can be associated with the entity. The first set of permissions can be different than a second set of permissions associated with unverified entities. Use of the communication channel and/or the communication platform by the entity can be controlled based at least partly on the first set of permissions.

  • Publication number: 20220158830
Abstract: Media, system, and method for providing encryption key management to a channel within a group-based communication system. The contents of the channel is encrypted according to the encryption key management policy of the organization to which the author of the content belongs and is stored in a data store. Responsive to a revocation request from a first organization, the encryption keys associated with any content in the channel submitted by the authors of said first organization may be revoked from a second organization, such that users of the second organization no longer have access to the content.

  • Publication number: 20220159005
Abstract: Management of hosted channel membership of a communication platform is described. A request can be received from a first client of a first user, associated with a first organization, of the group-based communication platform, wherein the request is to associate a second user, associated with a second organization, with a communication channel of the first organization. An invitation to join the communication channel can be sent to a second client of the second user. In response to receiving an indication of an acceptance of the invitation, the second user can be associated with the communication channel. A request can be received from the second client to associate other user(s) associated with the second organization with the communication channel and the other user(s) can be associated with the communication channel based at least in part on permission(s) associated with the communication channel.

  • Publication number: 20220141627
Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention are directed to a communications apparatus and associated methods configured for managing user identification queries. The communication apparatus is configured to receive a user identification query comprising a requesting user identifier and a target user identifier, compare the target user identifier to a user status cache associated with the requesting user identifier to determine a known status, an unknown status, or a pending status, and cause rendering of a known user identification interface or a limited user identification interface. In some embodiments, the communication apparatus is configured to transmit a client device hold instruction in response to determining the pending status for the target user identifier with respective to a given requesting user identifier. Various embodiments discussed herein mediate and resolve voluminous user identification queries through a specially configured group-based caching service and associated system architecture.

  • Patent number: 11310295
Abstract: Generating shared workspaces for enabling communications between users of different organizations and facilitating discovery of users associated with different organizations is described. A first user can generate a shared workspace and associate one or more other organizations therewith. The first user can designate first criteria associated with joining the shared workspace. The communication platform can receive a request from a second user to join the shared workspace. Based on a determination that the second user satisfies the first criteria, the communication platform can enable the second user access to the shared workspace. In some examples, an administrator associated with an organization of the second user can establish second criteria for users of the organization to join the shared workspace. In such examples, the communication platform can enable the second user access to the shared workspace based on a determination that the second user also satisfies the second criteria.

  • Publication number: 20220109645
Abstract: Techniques are described for expediting communications between a first person of an organization associated with a communication platform and a second person not associated with the organization. The first person requests for the communication platform to generate an invitation to communicate with the second person. The first person provides the invitation to the second person directly or via the communication platform. Responsive to receiving an indication that the second person accepts the invitation, the communication platform identifies whether the second person is associated with the communication platform. If the second user is associated with the communication platform, the communication platform modifies an existing user interface associated therewith to enable communications between the first person and the second person.

  • Patent number: 11290408
Abstract: Techniques for enabling a client device associated with an organization to render a custom emoji that is associated with a different organization. In some examples, a first user associated with a first organization can compose a message to a second user associated with a second organization, the message including a custom emoji specific to the first organization. A server computing device can receive the message and determine a resource identifier associated with the custom emoji of the first organization. The resource identifier can provide a location in a database at which the custom emoji is stored. The server computing device formats the message to include the resource identifier and sends the message to the second user. A computing device associated with the second user receives the message and accesses the custom emoji based in part on the resource identifier. The computing device then renders the message with the custom emoji for display to the second user.

  • Publication number: 20220060562
Abstract: Managing organization disconnections from a shared resource of a communication platform is described. In a sharing approval repository of a communication platform, a shared resource can be associated with a host organization identifier and a non-host organization identifier. In an example, in response to receiving, from a user computing device associated with the host organization identifier or the non-host organization identifier, a resource disconnection request comprising a disconnecting organization identifier and a resource identifier associated with the shared resource, the sharing approval repository can be updated to add a disconnection indication for the resource identifier in association with the disconnecting organization identifier.
