  • Publication number: 20220267200
Abstract: A method of making a functionalized device for amplification or multiplication of electrons includes making a glass channel array by a laser-induced deep etching process including (1) applying laser pulses to a glass substrate to form an array of modified areas, the glass substrate having a thickness less than 5 mm, the modified areas extending between two surfaces of the glass substrate, and (2) subsequently performing an etching process to selectively remove the modified areas and thereby form an array of through channels. Subsequently, one or more materials are deposited on the glass channel array to form the functionalized device.

  • Patent number: 9213005
Abstract: An X-ray anti-scatter grid having thinner X-ray opaque layers, smaller X-ray opaque diameters, greater aspect ratio, lower weight and improved image resolution is disclosed. A method of forming the X-ray anti-scatter grid is disclosed that includes a set of hollow X-ray transparent glass capillary tubes that are fused together, with an X-ray opaque layer thick enough to block X-rays at a specified energy inside the capillary tubes. The capillary tubes provide the high aspect ratio and light weight, while the X-ray opaque layer is provided by a deposition process that has features similar to atomic layer deposition (ALD). The high aspect ratio and thin layers improves resolution and decreases image artifacts, and large area X-ray anti-scatter grids are provided by aligning the axis of the an X-ray opaque layers to the X-ray source.

  • Publication number: 20070140912
Abstract: The present invention provides a microfluidic device that can be used for fiber optic interrogation of multiple samples. The device comprises a substrate integrally comprising a plurality of optic fibers. A layer formed on a surface of the substrate defines at least one topological feature that communicates with at least one optic fiber for interrogation of a sample. The device preferably comprises a plurality of topological features that may include a patterned array of wells, channels or any combinations thereof. The plurality of optic fibers of a device of the invention are capable of interrogating thousands of samples simultaneously. These samples may include, without limitation, molecular, cellular, proteomic, genomic or gaseous materials or assays. The present invention also discloses a method for fabricating a microfluidic device. The invention also comprises a method for interrogating multiple samples in parallel via the microfluidic devices provided herein.
